The original and properly working induction system will work better and likely get better mileage than an aftermarket carb with an aluminum intake.
F.I. seems a large expense and more hassle than necessary for what now is a minor issue to solve. A well sorted dual exhaust would probably gain more mileage than F.I. alone.

That's certainly been my experience, especially with aftermarket Holleys and Edelbrocks. It's always a battle between adjusting choke rich/lean setting and "fast idle" speed. And sometimes you simply have to go richer in winter and leaner in summer.
The last carbs I remember with chokes that worked well were late 60s and early 70s factory Q-jets with divorced chokes and choke pull-offs. Rarely needed to adjust anything on them to get consistent operation. My buddy who's a Ford guy says the same is true of OEM Autolite carbs used in the 50s-70s.
