Re: 1971 Cheyenne Work Truck
I will finish rust repair on the drivers side today. Items to do; front cab support, front pillar plate and holes, and the rocker panel.

Re: 1971 Cheyenne Work Truck
Major rust repair is done. Still need to cleanup some welds and epoxy prime, but moving on to the doors for a change of scenery. Fill the speaker holes and rust repair. So far I have logged 68 hours for the teardown and metal work.

Re: 1971 Cheyenne Work Truck
Drivers door will take some work but I am going to try and use it. Also replaced the passenger fender cup. Wasn't to bad, but had to cut the spot welds and make a cut to spread it some.

Re: 1971 Cheyenne Work Truck
Been awhile since I've had time to work on the project. You all know how it goes, graduations, weddings, work, etc. Back to work now! Today had some time to work the rear window seal area. Didn't expect to find the rust when I removed the window, thought I was done with rust repair. Oh well.

Re: 1971 Cheyenne Work Truck
Removed the dash pad, wow what chore. Worked on driver fender and drip rail area. Still plenty to do, hopefully I can get on a roll and get the cab done in the next couple weeks.

Well, I'm back at it. Last summer til now has been crazy. I'll spare everyone the details and just say a bunch of parts have been ordered and here we go!

Re: 1971 Cheyenne Work Truck
I was never a fan of the lwb to swb conversions, but that is the way I'm going. Still trying to decide on using the step bumper it came with or chrome oe style.

Re: 1971 Cheyenne Work Truck
Nice work & nice trucks! I'll have to keep an eye out for you...I live over in Papillion. Come to think of it, I may have seen the orange & white one...is it a Highlander with a 402? If so, I think I've seen it at the H&H show and @ Brownies a couple of years back.

Re: 1971 Cheyenne Work Truck
Nice looking truck you are working on, your rust repair is thorough, without shortcuts!
Good job! I am another fan in your area, I have always loved these trucks, had a 70 K-10 about 25 years ago and always regretted selling it. Recently went to Colorado and picked up a 70 GMC Sierra Grande 2500, "longhorn" 402 4 speed. I will have it out this season. Keep it up, Greg Last edited by Greg58; 04-11-2017 at 10:24 AM. |

Re: 1971 Cheyenne Work Truck
I have a couple Honey-dos to get done and then I can play with the truck. Most of the parts to get the cab completed have come in and are waiting for the paint work to get done. Thanks for the comments.

Re: 1971 Cheyenne Work Truck
Hey Lanman1972 --- I also complimented you on your orange/white Chevy - Highlander --- first one I have ever seen recently at 144 center- family fare parking lot. And I remember giving you a wave as I was leaving the Fremont swap meet .

Re: 1971 Cheyenne Work Truck
I was wondering if that was the truck in Fremont. Are you in the Millard area?

Re: 1971 Cheyenne Work Truck
Millard is correct --- I do remember you saying you also had another truck --- and I complement you on all the bodywork you have already done.

Re: 1971 Cheyenne Work Truck
The Cheyenne is slow going. I did get the seat redone and have all the parts for the interior. My plan is to get the inside cab done now that the weather is cooling some.

Re: 1971 Cheyenne Work Truck
Although I haven't post any pics, the interior is complete and it looks awesome. The assembly under the dash was not much fun but all the duct work, heater box, glove box, etc. are installed and work properly.
