Well I think the truck and I was meant to be. It was built in my hometown of fremont,ca. In the plant now being used by tesla motors.

Dude, sweet truck! I'm on board with the guys saying get it running! If it were mine, I'd start with getting the motor running. Wouldn't worry about brakes or fuel tank or any of that until you hear it run and get motivated for real! Throw a battery in it and rig up a funnel full of fuel and a chunk of hose to the carb and jump across the starter solenoid if the ignition is out to see if she fires! Check the oil level first... Then id work the brakes, then stick er in gear and see if she moves! Then I'd find a fender, windscreen, and tank and enjoy driving it for a bit! Once you start pulling the body off and all that, schedules and funds get in the way and who knows when you will drive it again... Let me know if you need any parts along the way, I've acquired a few along my short journey..

Took the carb off today. Trying to get it cleaned and rebuilt. So is this a rochester 2g or 2gc? What stamp code do we find out with.

Napa sells a rebuild kit that services most all the 2 jets. There is a very good video on how to do this on YouTube. If I can find it I'll add it here. Simple carb to rebuild. In the kit, pay close attention to the instructions that are included on bench setting the carb. That thing is nasty! Hope you have access to a parts cleaner of some sort!

before you rebuild it ..
they sell it at walmart .

Oh yeah I was going to buy carb cleaner tomorrow and soak it.

So the original carb for the 63 283 has a big choke on it. This one does not. Also there are no stampings for the carb. So maybe this isn't the original carb.

Originally there would have been a data tag attached to one of the bowl screws. Like I said previously the kit u get at Napa services most all the 2 jets and has instructions for each one. Maybe someone else can chime in and tell u how to identify visually. I'm not sure what u mean by big choke? This has an automatic manifold heat choke (divorced) right? I'm not a carburetor overhaul technician.. What's the hang up on identifing this as original? Just curious

Because I want to know if it;s OG or not for numbers purpose. I'm trying to restore it back as original as I can. I know the original color, heck it's still on the truck, just the last owner covered it up.

So I was crusing craigslist and found a 62 parts truck. Initially I was just going after the seat bench because I have not been able to find one. The guy was going to sell it to me for $40 bucks. I called him two days before mothers day, but couldn't make it out to go get it. So thursday, I called him again and he still had the truck. By chance I asked him what he would sell the whole thing for. $300 bucks. So Now I have the Gas tank, bench seat, steering wheel, heater core and pipes, All the knobs, the glove box, the fresh air vents, The wire harness look in really great shape.

So I figure that I just saved a TON of cash. But I do have one question. So the 63 Im keeping the last owner took out the gas tank rests. So I'm assuming I have to grind them off and then weld them back on to my truck.





So these are what I'm talking about, How should I get these off to transplant them.

The gas tank saddles are spot welded in. You will have to find all the spot welds and drill them out.

That '62 parts truck looks to be in decent shape. Please don't take what you don't use to a scrap yard before trying to sell it to someone that could use it. These trucks and parts are getting harder to find all the time.

I was thinking of cutting it out just before it hits the cab. But I can drill it also. Guess the bed is coming off.

No Ill list parts here once I get what I need from it. That will be a while. I know I don't need the front lights, grill. so Once I pay the monthly here Im going to list those.

there is no driver fender on this truck and whats the High hump?

did you see it on CL for Boise?

Yes I called on it two weeks ago I was on the east coast for work though lol. The high hump is the transmission cover for the 4 speed in the center of the cab floor. It wasn't bolted down but he said it was loose in the bed.

Well it wasn't there today. He must of sold it. I needed the fender driver side also. It seems to be a popular item lol. But I will be able to use a lot for my truck.

So I got the fender off today. I'm wondering if it should buy the patch from lmc , the whole fender or try and repair this one.

What do you think?

I would tray and repair that fender first. The aftermarket replacement fenders are not that good and will also need some work. There are places besides LMC to buy parts for these trucks.

That's buckled pretty well. So would I just harder the heck out of it?

If you have the time, I would try and work it some to see if you could get away with the typical small patch for this part of the fender. Yes you will likely have to hammer on it pretty hard to start with to get it unfolded.

So I can not get the motor to start. It will turn. It has spark because I will put a little bit of gas in the carb and it will pop/backfire. So any idea on what to look at? The distributor?

Ive gotten the bench out, the heater core, the parking brake off of my donor truck. The one thing I can't get off is the knobs for the dash for the wipers, lights and such. Any suggestions on how to get that off.

The other thing I need to get off is the vents for the defrost/heater under the dash. I can't get to the screw its screwed in from the top, but I can't get to the screw.

So any ideas would be appreciated.

It sounds like The distributor might be 180 degrees off. Or some of the plug wires are mixed up

To remove the headlight knob and shaft, you need to push in on the button on the headlight switch. The wiper knob I believe is held on with a set screw?

On the engine, I agree with checking the distributor phasing as well as correct firing order.
