4 wheel drums on my '69 long stepper. Completely rebuilt the brake system not long after purchase - including hoses and hard lines. Still had all original hardware. Stops just fine. You have to drive it properly. Ease into the stop. No sudden standing on the pedal at the last minute.
One thing I have seen over the years which really puzzles me is how some think drums do not need to be turned. They can and do wear in a taper. This results in new shoes only making partial contact and makes for poor braking that so many associate with drums.
