Valve rotators is a thing for helping prevent carbon build up and heat distribution. Propane runs a lot hotter than gas and that valve gets extremely hot. What happens when it spins, it is so hot that the valve actually starts to chews into the vale seat until the seat is gone. Personal experience off my my friends propane powered 84, the seats were all chewed out of the heads on the exhaust valves. A true propane motor should have better valves and higher comppression to allow the full potential of the fuel. Like I said one or the other, or do it right or don't do it all.

Chevyman: I hadn't thought the turning valve would dig in like that; no kidding it gets awfully hot. Another thing that I've heard is that one of the weak points on the 292 are the valves burning (on gas engines) which is why they used the rotators. I have no idea if that's true.

I assume your buddy's '84 was a 292 as well (not that it makes any difference anyway :-> )

You guys are still making good points everytime I check in here....great stuff. I didn't think this topic would go this far.

I'm going to look into this fairly seriously but may not really be able to afford everything right away anyway so I'm going to do some searching for info about it.

Greg
