Re: 1972 C30 open road motor home!
Holly cow that is an amazing camper! Very nice buy! I'll be looking for the thread on it. I've been trying to find a decent priced one around here which hasn't happened yet.

The thread is going to be boring if I do it. I'm not touching much. This thing is soooooooo nice. The PO cried while I drove down his driveway. I'll never forget it.

Re: 1972 C30 open road motor home!
Congrats! I think you bought the best looking one I've seen and you bought it well! Have you priced a new comparable sized motor home lately? You'll fall over from sticker shock and in my opinion they have absolutely no character and no one will ever want one of them when they are close to 50 yrs. old. Now, prepare yourself to be held up CONSTANTLY by people that just love it when you stop for gas etc... Not too mention all the people that will be takin pics of it as you are cruisin down the road. Where are you going to store it when not in use? If it were mine that baby should at the very least be kept under a lean to... I'll bet you the previous owner was one cool dude and it sounds like he cherished all the time he had with his family with that camper...

Re: 1972 C30 open road motor home!
I think you got a fair deal. This thing looks immaculate and well taken care of. Anyone that has restored a truck know that you are money ahead instead of buying someones neglected camper. You will get a ton of compliments I'm sure. I like the stance of this one too. Looks like he actually used this one on the highway which is a plus for me. I'm looking forward to the thread on this one.

Re: 1972 C30 open road motor home!
This motorhome has a warm comfy spot in my shop. It's not heated, but it's well insulated. Never gets too hot or too cold in NW Oregon. Gary is a cool guy. Harley Davidsons, many nice cars including a 1969 suburban that is one of the nicest I've seen. When I first showed this to Ashley, she wanted to see what $13,500 could buy in a newer motorhome. That's what really got her on board! Best option was a 1997 ford van class C...
The only thing we don't like is no seat belts for the kids. So I'm going to get on that before our first camping trip in 2 weeks.

Re: 1972 C30 open road motor home!
Congrats, sometimes you have to pony up and pay more for something of value. You have bought one of the nicest, and my guess very few that nice, open road M/Homes out there. I love it, it looks like your wife is going to take this over and put her touch on it. You did well. Slap us up some inside pics of the camper when you can. Thanks

Re: 1972 C30 open road motor home!
Very cool, congrats.
Out of curiosity, what makes you guys want a motorhome in general? I see trailer in the background and am assuming that this replaces that trailer. So what happens once you get to the campsite and need or want to go somewhere? I've always wondered this.

Re: 1972 C30 open road motor home!
The pic of Ash on the deck is at her parents house on the way home. That's their travel trailer.
There are so many lakes to fish in Oregon! I've got a small boat that we'll tow for those trips. And this motorhome is not a huge beast! Its 23' long. I can park, drop the deck, level it and be camping in 10 minutes. Need to go to town? Chain the boat to a tree and hit the road! Only bad part so far is I backed into a newer charger a parking lot yesterday! The rear bumper swings more than I'm used to. Minor damage no big deal. Motorhome laughed it off. I'm thinking s backup camera would help on that.

Re: 1972 C30 open road motor home!
I would only say one thing. One trip to any RV dealership would open you eyes to what $14 K brings today. Not to mention the garbage quality present in most today. A close friend bought a new Airstream , you can’t believe that horror story of poor workmanship.

I would totally agree, however these are for actual enthusiasts, who want that beauty brought back, not for the guy wanting one of the shelf.

I am subscribed, don't need to sell, just finishing up 2 other projects. Then I'll get this baby rolling. I know of 2 others, little longer I'm looking at.

I think what 68bowtie means, is become a subscribing member, but you have to pay a fee for that. You are not a subscribing member, as your name is in pink.

Re: 1972 C30 open road motor home!
Email me at bigddman@gmail.com.
There is a really nice olive green '72 C30 open road camper for sale on Portland craigslist. I went to look at it yesterday. To my surprise, my wife loved it! We couldn't get a great look because it was buried back in the shop. No battery, no propane tanks. The truck portion of it is perfect. 350/t400, black buckets (painted green). Tilt, tach, 68,000 miles. The camper part is original. In decent condition. Couldn't test any of the appliances or plumbing. He says it's all good, works fine. Asking price is $13,999. Too much money for us on it. FIRM on the $14k. These things are hard to find info on. Mecum auctions sold one last month for $18,500. I see one on the board for sale from 2015 for $7,000. Does anybody have one, or know of one in the NW? I would have brought $10,000 for that beast if we could test it out. I can't get the link to show up. Anybody out there know the ins and outs of these? Or even the shorter Mitchells? I hope I didn't low ball it.[/QUOTE] |
