I'm going back and forth on keeping the trim. It's in pretty good shape, and I'm only missing 1 piece. I think that will most likely keep it. I'm pretty sure that I will be throwing a cheap white paint job on it, it would look nice with the trim.

Well, I got the bottom of the cab all patched up, then I went over all of the welds and seams with seam sealer, then shot a couple of heavy coats of primer. After the primer dries I'll put a couple of coats of undercoating on it.

Awesome progress. You are moving right along. What kind of undercoating did you use?

I have tried a few diffrent brands, but the $3 a can rustolieum from Walmart is what I like the best. It seems to hold up nice, it has good coverage, and goes on with a nice smooth texture. 4 cans was enough to give the bottom of the cab 2 good coats, and a 3rd coat on the inner rockers, and inner cab corners.

Re: 77 k10 short box winter beater build

Body work on the cab is about 3/4 done, hoping to get some primer on it in the next couple of days. This is alot more than I intended to do on this truck, but it's hard to stop once you get started. I'm having fun though. I'm trying to do everything as dirt cheap as I can. I decided to paint it light blue and white.

Looking good! That's exactly how my winter beater went. It snowballed from "good enough for my commute in the snow" to a full paint job, rust repair, new fender, bumpers, dent repair, new glass, etc.

Now my winter beater is cleaner than my primary truck. How the hell did that happen...

Thanks, I decided to 2 tone it light blue, with a white roof, and white down the sides.

That looks really sharp. You might have to change the name of your build!

Thanks! If I changed the name of build it would be "Menards Makeover". I'm going to see how cheap I can build a decent truck. I have used a little epoxy primer, and a little high build primer, but everything else has come from menards so far. I even bought a gallon of Bondo brand filler for $15, and it actually wasn't to bad, paint is rustolieum professional, but I'm using regular reducer and activator with it. I'm pretty impressed with how well it sprays out. Urethane lifetime calk for seam sealer. It's pretty fun building on a budget.

When your ready for paint let me know. You are only 3 hours away. I sold my stepside in Des Moines a few months ago, and brought this 77 and a 85 gmc home with me from the guy that bought the stepside.

You know, I think I saw that truck at the Iowa State Fairgrounds during the spring swap meet. It was in rough condition. You're a brave man!!

Re: 77 k10 short box winter beater build

Well, I got a coat of primer on the cab floor. I'm hoping to get the cab back on the frame soon, then I can get a bunch of parts put back on. It's getting to be a huge mess in the shop, I have a tough time being productive when the shop is out of order.

I'll clean it up a little and shoot a little paint on it. I'm going to have to get new front spring hangers for the rear springs also. All the spring and shackle bushings are junk too. I think I'll paint the frame now so I can get the cab on, then just touch it up where I end up having to work on it.
