Thanks garyd1961.
I understand all this now, after researching everything.
The end result is my Dad bought a pair of standard heads and just yesterday, tells me everything is back together and it fired right up!
Little more work to do and it'll be ready for the fall and winter days that he cannot get out on 2 wheels.
