Re: Air compressor: rebuild or replace pump?
Dredging up an old post. I'm finally getting around to installing the Schulz MSL 10 Max pump I got in the fall. The online pulley calculator I found says that my 3450rpm motor with a 4.25" pulley will spin the 10" pulley on the Schulz pump 1466rpm. The Schulz website says my pump should spin at 860rpm. Will the 606rpm increase be too much for it?
If I can install the old pumps 14" pulley it brings the rpm down to 187 over the recommended pump speed. On the other hand if I find a 2.5" motor pulley it puts me almost spot on Schulz's 860rpm Am I missing anything here? Thanks Paul Schulz site: http://www.schulzamerica.com/product...e/max-140-psi/ Calculator site: http://www.blocklayer.com/pulley-belteng.aspx

Re: Air compressor: rebuild or replace pump?
Spinning the pump too fast will increase the heat generated in the head and create additional load on the motor. Not an expert but would be best if you can swap the 14" pulley to the new pump AND buy a new motor pulley of the correct size to get the recommended RPM. Too small a motor pulley might not leave enough contact area to drive the belt.

Thanks Parrot. I found this information on one of the Ebay sellers pages. It says to spin it between 700 and 1000. Paul

Re: Air compressor: rebuild or replace pump?
Typical motor rpm's are usually around 3600 or 1800. Dead parrot is spot on about spinning at 1,000 rpm's or less.

Re: Air compressor: rebuild or replace pump?
Thanks guys. My motor data plate says it spins at 3450rpm. My old pump pulley and the new pump have different shaft sizes so that swap is out. Using a 2.5"pulley on my motor will spin the new pump at 902rpm.
