Re: 66 Hotrod Pro Touring
During this time I also ran the body down to the paint shop. I am super excited at what it is going to look like once it's painted. I have done some renderings with a guy that I have seen on this site in years past. He does some amazing work. I just talked to him about my ideas and a little back-n-forth he was able to create the exact image of what this truck is doing to look like once it's finished.

Re: 66 Hotrod Pro Touring
I got the roller wheels and now can really finish up all the suspension parts and brake lines. All of the remaining parts are back from powder coating. That means we can get the air tank mounted and compressors.

Re: 66 Hotrod Pro Touring
The block is painted but still need to send the heads out to be hot tanked. There is still so much junk yard grime on them. The paint shop mixed up some single stage paint based on the color I picked for the truck. I am hoping it is not orange.

Re: 66 Hotrod Pro Touring
We got the heads back from being hot tanked and now they look brand new!! The transmission is also back from being tuned up, cleaned and painted (so shinney ).
We went ahead and put the engine back in the truck but I am still waiting on the new valve covers and coil packs. Hopefully, they come this week but should have the at least get the transmissions bolted back on and get the driveshaft measured and built. |

Re: 66 Hotrod Pro Touring
Hey, why is there a c cut out on the upper passenger frame rail right before the motor mount? Does it serve a purpose or was it there when you bought the truck?

Re: 66 Hotrod Pro Touring
KenAdams, wow good eyes! That little cutout allows the AC compressor to stay in the stock location.

Re: 66 Hotrod Pro Touring
Did you use the factory V8 frame brackets in the original V8 location? What engine brackets did you use? Any issue with AC compressor hittng the mounts?

Thanks, looks like we have some similar ideas, I took a step backwards this week, I just wasn't happy with the firewall, so we removed everything, welded up all the holes, removed the delete plates and welded them up, smoothing the new inner fenders a bit and going to shoot everything gloss black base/clear

Re: 66 Hotrod Pro Touring
dschmit, The original motor perches were used. The CPP LS mounts were back ordered so we ended up mixing up some different parts. The LS mounts were attached to the perches and then we used a motor plate. This allowed for the motor to be moved just a tiny bit forward. This allowed the headers and ac compressor to perfectly. I am attaching a really close look at the mounts let me know if that helps.

Re: 66 Hotrod Pro Touring
Transmission is mounted and tossed on the parts on to the front to see how the intake and valve covers are going to clear. Sadly the fuel line is too tight to the back of the alternator.

Re: 66 Hotrod Pro Touring
Thank you, that helps. On the LH side of engine, it appears the front upper bolt on the mount goes directly into the LS mount hole. Is that correct and whos mount plates did you end up using?

Re: 66 Hotrod Pro Touring
So I have a couple more months before I will need to put the new truck in my garage, but I already have two cars in the garage. So I am now trying to figure which one of my cars I am going to have to sell to make room. This is like Sophie's choice since I love them both.
The tan one is an almost all original 1974 FJ40 with only 97K miles on it and the other is a 1932 Ford Hi-Boy Roadster. Just curious what would you do? |

Re: 66 Hotrod Pro Touring
I have been looking around the site at all of the really cool looking interiors for ideas on what to do with mine. I want a bench seat that is high bolstered like a bucket seat but with a race car feel. My first thought was that I would have to make the bench seat myself and use something like a Glide frame. I did this last time with the seat from my 32 HiBoy and it came out so nice, but I found this site that has a finished bench seat exactly the way I was hoping it would look like. They also have some really nice door panels that I may buy as well.

Re: 66 Hotrod Pro Touring
So some progress has been made. The drive shaft was ordered and has now been installed. The new valve covers, plug wires, alternator bracket, and chrome alternator have been installed. Missing the bolt for the coil packs so still need to run out and get some but the coil packs themselves are here.
I also went over to the body shop to see how far they are on the cab and its starting to look like new again. |
