So, maybe I should be looking for a much closer to Dec 20th 1966 cast date
Hmmmmmmm... very interesting that the cast date and assembly date are that close.

So... I am revising my search...
I am now looking for a Mid-Dec cast date block.
Ideal find would be a 3892657 block cast date of L-10-6 to L-19-6

Jmader, thank you so much for finding me that info.

Re: WTB... 327 Block

I think these things were pretty random. The 327 I found for my truck has a casting date of E-4-6 but the engine pad is stamped F0505YM (the casting #3858174 was not used in 1966 vehicles) so this block sat around for over a year before it was used in a truck. You just never know

Re: WTB... 327 Block

I agree, I think they were pretty random.
But, If I can stumble across a 3892657 block with a cast date of between L-10-6 to L-19-6
I think it would be a no brainer in not having to explain the huge date difference.

Since the block (3858174) was used from 64-67 and a YH coded block is correct for a 66 C20-30 w/M49 (TH400), I'd say its originally out of a '66 truck.

Jmader, thank you so much for finding me that info.
Since I know you are not looking to stamp a block don't fixate on a specific casting number or casting date range. Use those to help find a correct or very closely dated block based on the engine assembly number. But it does confirm what I have been saying. Your correct block with the assembly code V1220YH
could very well have a casting date as late as L 19 6 and it is probably a 3892657 casting number.

If we locate an original engine on or very closely before that assembly date it will then be a decision if its "close enough" or a reference for the casting numbers and dates of all the major components as would have been used on your vehicle to futher narrow the search.

What's your source that says the YH was used in '66 trucks? I could never find anywhere that said that. You're probably right though that would explain the big date gap.

This is from the 46-72 Chevrolet series 10 20 30 truck parts manual dated 5/79.

Re: WTB... 327 Block

Oh sorry my block is a YM suffix not YH. I don't see the YM in that list. Do you have any more info on the YM?

I am mostly interested in block with casting number of 3892657
and a casting date of L 10 6 to L 19 6 (rear pass side of block)

I was kind of thinking of getting a block that "could have been correct" simply due to casting date. Of coarse... ideally a V1220YH would be awesome. I guess I was just not dreaming that big.

And, based on the sheet above... How did my 1967 1/2ton have a YH code?
