Sound Deadener and Heat Suppression

I went a different route and sprayed in lizard skin. I liked the fact that it seals and protects the metal from moisture. I sprayed two coats of the sound deadener inside the cab on the floor and up the back as well as on the headliner area. Also sprayed a coat in both sides of the floor (inside and outside) up the back wall and on the headliner area. then painted over everything. so far I am really happy with it, but i have just been around the block. I cant wait to get the carpet in, but it was weird to drive around and not hear any rattles.

Still confused here. There seems to be no consensus on brands or price.

First off, I am cheap! Except for when it comes to my comfort level driving. I need to be happy there. And sound deadener would make my cheap audio system sound better.

Does anyone know how much we need for a standard cab 67-72?

If I could buy just enough for what I need, there would be no extra for me to spend my cash on.

I used the stuff from Lowes and it works great. I have new bucket seats and carpet. On a hot day with the windows up, I open the door and all I smell is new seats and carpet. Nothing is melting or other smells. I saved a bundle.

Undoubtedly I overspent on this....but I used Second Skin. Damplifier Pro and Luxury Liner Pro.

Very quiet.

I used peal +seal from Lowe's in my 67 camaro it worked great. I just overlapped the seams by a 1/2 in. Been in the car 6yrs and no problems. My new carpet had the factory style jute padding under it. Made my car real quite inside. My buddy had a piece of dynamat we compared it to peal and seal and it looked the same and smelled the same only the peal and seal was a hair thicker. I guess it all depends on how much you want to spend.

The peel-n-seal and other less expensive alternatives are not heat barriers. They are good panel dampers ( sound ) but really do nothing for the heat.

I used Tru-Max Insulator Mats part number: TRU-30000-12406. This is a 28 dollar 48" by 72" roll of effective insulation ( heat/sound ) with foil facing on both sides. I put it down with 3m spray adhesive against the peel-n-seal. Used aluminum tape to seal the seams and went as high up the firewall as possible with the stuff.

Works as advertised.

OK, maybe the stuff isn't completely useless for the heat My experience with it here in the Texas summer has been less that stellar. Big difference was felt after installing the Tru-Max barrier and mass-backed carpet over top of that.

I've used some peel and seal type stuff in a more modern car to see how much difference it made. It didn't seem to make that much difference, but that car already had sound deadener from the factory. I imagine it would make more difference on an old truck. I did have a few small sheets of dynamat I put on my C1500 a few years ago, but that didn't seem to do much either. My eventual goal is to pull the original seat and rubber mat from my truck and use dynamat in a larger area then install an ACC carpet with mass backing. I will also put more dynamat in the doors. I think that will bring down the noise level enough to cruise quietly at highway speeds.

NC John is right. This Fat Mat, peel and seal and all that other stuff mentioned is only for rattles and to keep things from vibrating. It does very little in the way of blocking out road noise. Like John said, the Dynamat stuff is only part of the complete package. What you really need is some "Mass Loaded Vinyl" and it needs to be separated from the Dynamat stuff with a thin layer of some type of padding.

In my Blazer, I lined the entire tub and inside my doors with Fat Mat. Worked great at sound deadening with carpet over top. But not so much with heat reduction inside the Blazer. To solve the heat issue, I lined a portion of the engine compartment side of the firewall with Kevlar heat shielding, and ran this all the way under the tranny tunnel over the transmission. I also added more Kevlar heat shielding on the underside of the bed floor between the mufflers and the bed floor. This heat shielding greatly reduced the radiant heat that was coming through the firewall and up through the floor. No more warm/hot floor, and the A/C works much better without having to fight the radiant heat.

All of the off-the shelf heat shield pads I have found and used have some degree of Kevlar reinforcement. Not meant to act as a bullet stopper or scatter shield, but just to provide longevity to the pad in its harsh environments under the Blazer. A little spendy, but well worth the results.

I've used Peel N Seal on four of my vehicles and it made a difference. On the 72 K20, did the fuel tank too, can't hear the gas slashing around anymore. Hasn't come loose or smelt at all. Just bought another roll online with free shipping from BUYMBS.com in Ohio, cheaper than Lowes. It's roofing material so it shouldn't melt.

The peel & seal Im seeing at lowes these days is only 6”wide x 25’ long. Is this the product folks are using that are opting for peel & seal?

Yes, thats the stuff. It work ok but I suggest you look into KilMat. It is very affordable and it definatly works better than that peel & seal. Your truck looks nice, use the right stuff.

10-4. Thanks. I was just looking at options, now. Im thinking Im probably going with a nice, full rubber floor mat. Im planning to use truck as a driver. Im not going with carpet. Probably wont get it painted for a couple years.
