Check this thread, he's working in the same area. The whole thread is a good reference.

Re: 1972 GMC Jimmy Build.
That was a good thread. Thank you for the link. I searched B Pillar repair last night as well.
I am going to move a head with my patch panels that I am going to make. see how that works. After the start of the new year maybe I could justify spending another 400 to 500 dollars on those patch panels.

Re: 1972 GMC Jimmy Build.
Ok I have looked in a bunch of threads. How did you guys get out the bolts that are circled on the picture below.
Then did you reinstall or weld them in?

Re: 1972 GMC Jimmy Build.
A tough decision. You can cut into the b pillar and hope you can turn the bolts out and replace them (See the pic of the holes from the top side inside the b pillar) or you could weld it (I'll never tell...)
Good luck, Rg

Re: 1972 GMC Jimmy Build.
Well decided to remove the Pillar Panel. Used the Blue wrench to remove the two bolt heads.
So this is an attempt to remake a part that Was just a bit too rusty for my liking.

Re: 1972 GMC Jimmy Build.
Well this is my first attempt, Just trying to take a good long look at what I want. This is bolted in, the piece I made. It does not have the breaks and I am still thinking about ordering the parts. But this is 16 ga. and right now has 4 bolts. In a bit it will have five then the three along the rocker box end cap.

Re: 1972 GMC Jimmy Build.
LOL, don't worry, you'll have plenty more of that, but then there is the fun part when all the pieces fall in place

Re: 1972 GMC Jimmy Build.
Cut out some more rust and moved to the front A pillar. Really it is in pretty decent shape only about the bottom three inches are going to need to be replaced.
Feel free to give me any pointers on these pictures. I think that the gap between the rocker and the backing plate are close to right. I didn't have much to go off of besides page 23 of the assembly manual. It looks like there should be 3/8 inch gap. I will put the door back on this week and see how my gaps are lining up.

I admire your workmanship and courage, hang in there. It gets less grotty and more interesting once you are past the rust repair.

Re: 1972 GMC Jimmy Build.
Happy Holiday's to everyone! I hope everyone had a great Christmas!
Some pictures of the work that I have gotten done since my last post. Been struggling on a couple of items fitment of the front Cab Floor Brace. I feel that I go it right now. The door and rocker panel fitment. New door hinges threw everything off that I had fit up to this point. Got those issues solved.

Re: 1972 GMC Jimmy Build.
I thought I had some more pictures. I will take some of the rocker fully welded in, and the rocker box welded in. I feel like the passenger side is almost complete. Going to start the driver side this week.

Re: 1972 GMC Jimmy Build.
It's looking great! I hate to say it but I really struggled with the rocker panel on the driver's side. It took a lot of cutting and welding to make it fit at the a-pillar.
Good luck, Rg

Re: 1972 GMC Jimmy Build.
You are making great progress - been there - done most of that work as you could tell from my build thread. To do it right takes a bunch of time and patience. Keep the pictures coming.

Re: 1972 GMC Jimmy Build.
Been a bit busy but here are some pictures of progress that I have made. The Rocker is fully welded in place. Replaced the Lower kick panel. Rebuilt the Back B pillar. Repaired the Lower Front Quarter Panel. Found a lot of bondo in the wheel well. Thinking that I am going to order a patch panel that goes up and over. Really wondering why i didn't replace the entire bedside. I may yet, after I catch up from Christmas. I was going to buy those two parts from Classic Heartbeat. When I redo the Bedsides I will and replace that I made.

Re: 1972 GMC Jimmy Build.
A Couple More Pictures. I have learned a lot for the drivers side. There are somethings that I will be doing differently for obvious reasons. The door gap is still to wide for my liking bought a set of shims form Amazon. if anyone has a link or photos of how to shim a door please reply.

Re: 1972 GMC Jimmy Build.
Been A little while since I have been on the board. Job, Family, Life all seem to conspire to keep me from working on the Jimmy.
I ordered a set of parts from GMC Paul's to do the fix on the drivers side. The right way, they should be here Monday. I hired a Babysitter tonight so that I could get some work in on the Jimmy. Mocked up a bunch of parts tonight. Feel pretty good about the fitment so far. I made a smoker, fired it up yesterday held 225 degrees for a little over 10 hours on one bag of charcoal. It is a reverse flow design that I found on a smoker website. Tasty.
