I can easily understand the reasoning about being hesitant. We are talking about a vehicle that is almost 50 years old. But if you are rebuilding it and you are confident in your skills, I think a road trip is the icing on the cake. Take a lot of pics.

I think in my board gallery there are a bunch of Bonneville pics from several years ago.

JUST DO IT!
You'll never tell the story of the trip you wanted to take.
If we had lots of time and beer I'd tell you about driving coast to coast in my GTO. During which the tranny went south and I made some good friends as a result. Enjoy life eat out more often!
