Re: engine upgrade time...

dave, I respect that... it looks pretty sweet in its old school feel!! and SOOO clean!

klb, hedman header part number 69196 HTC mid length... no clearance issues, drivers side pretty close but all good. I did go with tubular engine mounts though, with the factory engine mounts I believe there may have been a fitment issue, but honestly I didn't try it...

Re: engine upgrade time...

Dave, looks like the air cleaner on that turbo jet was saying 427.... Quite a bit of trickery going on there!

Re: engine upgrade time...

You started the thread by talking about an engine upgrade. Quite the understatement!

The new installation looks very businesslike. Old School hotrod comes to mind when I look at the finished project. Keep the thread going.

lots of progress being made today on the truck, just getting the wiring to the electric fans done, upgrading the wiring to alternator to handle the bigger alternator, getting the engine accessories remounted to the new motor.

Re: engine upgrade time...

I expect to see many smiles once you get this running. I'd say the whole truck is upgraded.

I took the same route as Davepl with a '69 CST 396 Stepside I built pro-street with stock appearance, except being a steam roller from the rear. I bought a crate LS6 (450hp 454) and put all the 402 stuff on. But it would be cool to have the big mutha ZZ crate engine looking at you when you open the hood of such a clean looking CST

Re: engine upgrade time...

Looking good! That video was a tease... I want to hear more! Have you driven it yet? If so, first impressions? I'm considering purchasing the same engine.

Curious, can you provide some details on the electric fans and the alternator you're installing - manufacturer/part number?

Thanks,
Miles

Thats quite the upgrade! Man that thing sounds Wicked! So what are you going to do with the 396? I really like the orange white two toned trucks, they're my favorites! Merry Christmas!

Wow that looks and sounds great.

Quick question, where did you get your radiator fans and shroud?

Re: engine upgrade time...

miles,
I haven't driven it yet... we hope to have it all buttoned up on Monday. we still had to do some wiring for the electric fans, and work on a couple of other issues. (but I cant wait)

I got a powermaster 150A alternator #57293

the fans and shroud came from old air products. not sure on that part number. I just called them and they set me up with the correct unit. it bolts up perfectly and looks really good. we should have them all wired up and done on Monday.

not sure what I'm going to do with the 396 yet....

updated pic as of today...

Re: engine upgrade time...

I'm a little jealous...Who makes that electric fan setup? My single electric fan isn't doing the job for my 454, I really like the looks of your fans/shroud!

Re: engine upgrade time...

Thanks for the info! I checked Old Air Products website, and unless I missed it, I can't find the direct fit electric fan set up you have. I'll have to give them a call next week.

Engine bay looks fantastic... keep the updates coming!

Miles

Re: engine upgrade time...

You're awesome! Thank you. I was looking in the electric fan/shroud section... not the factory replacement parts section. Electric fans weren't factory, so I didn't expect to find them there.

Thanks again.

Re: engine upgrade time...

Nice upgrade. A lot less wiring to contend with than an LS, that's for sure.

Re: engine upgrade time...

well we are sooo close... I been down and out with the flu but progress is still being made on the truck... got the new alternator installed this morning and it is working!! also we got it to the muffler shop and got it hooked up to the new headers and also got the exhaust cutouts installed.

So maybe tomorrow we will get the electric cutouts wired up, then check over everything to make sure all is well.

if I feel well enough maybe even go by the shop and see where we are at!

Re: engine upgrade time...

well I was feeling a little better yesterday morning, so I went by the dealership to look at the exhaust and the exhaust cutouts... that part looks good! Butch(the tech/installer at the dealership) actually took it to the exhaust shop for me and picked it up when it was done. really good of him since I been sick.

but...

when he got it back to the shop he now hears a tick in the motor... he hoped it was a rocker arm but he found out that its not that. he has a few ideas of what it may be but we are now waiting on GM performance to get back with him to see what they are going to do... this really stinks! after all this work, labor, etc... at least at this point the bill is on GM. luckily I have a great Tech at the dealership and he is a perfectionist, so I know it wont leave his bay without it being perfect!

they say GM performance will make it right and they have already reached out to the rep...

yeah this is disappointing, but I know it will be right once its done...

ill let yall know what happens next.

will
