very cool, I have contemplated cutting my 72 Super but just can't make myself do it. Looking forward to see your progress!

Tarafied, I don't think I would cut a super. This old truck was next to scrap and unloved. Hoping maybe as a short bed it will have a new lease on life. It would cost way more to doll it up than it will ever be worth. Just trying to knock a few of the rough edges off.

My Super is really really rusty. Only good panel is the hood! It doesn't look too bad from a distance and I wouldn't think of trying to "restore" it. It makes a cool shop truck. But anyway, I am watching your build closely, you may inspire me

Finally got an evening to throw a few bolts in the bedsides and set it on the truck. Been busy for the last couple of weeks swapping engine and tranny in my sons 90 chevy hunting truck. I'm glad to get back on this project .At least its freeing up room in the shop. Got a lot of welding and grinding to do.

Went ahead today and did a little more mocking up of this truck. Hung the tailgate and checked the bumper for alignment. Outside seams are welded and time to move on to the inner panels. I've got to lower this thing and get it out of the air some time. I may tow my Scotty with it so I don't want to go too low. I included a couple of shots for the heck of it.

I like your progress sir. It makes me want to do a SWB conversion while I'm all torn down. It seems to be quite a job to do the panel work and especially the tear down of the bed (metal, not a wood bed)

Don't let it overwhelm you. The bed is the most time consuming part of this but the frame work was the hard part for me. Every thing you see I have done with absolutely no help. There have been times during this, that an extra pair of hands, and eyes, would have been nice to have. I like a wood bed in a 67 but a metal one just requires a little different approach. I would not cut the bed across the floor, even though it is more work, I would disassemble the bed and cut the steel floor and tip over the metal in the back. Lots of talented people on here have approached their bed that way. Just take your time and bite off only what you can chew. My goal was not to build a show truck, but a shop truck. I am keeping tabs on the cost of this conversion and I am still under 200 bucks, counting the back bumper and mig welding wire. The drop and wiring is gonna cost me but that's part of it. Let us know what you end up doing.

Yah that seems to be the best way to do the floor. If I do the Conversion i will definitely be my method.

I'm about the world's worst at photoshop but I gave it a try. I like this stance fairly well. Maybe a 3/5 . I hate to go a 4/6 for fear of bottoming out on towing the camper. Do any of you folks have experience in that.? My 72 had about this same stance with cut front springs and heated rears. I just did not like the ride in the rear springs. I towed just fine but no cushion to speak of.

Thanks, Before I post this let me say, I absolutely am terrible at lettering , but I wanted to get my door logo on to see how it looks. I have the utmost respect for stripers who know their craft. I painted my shop name on the pass door for kicks.

Thanks guys, I've had a lot of fun with this old truck nobody wanted. I guess I will have to logo the other door for now. I promise to hire a pro after I paint it. The wife got on to me over the Hoss reference, but I was the biggest Hoss Cartwright fan that ever lived. Plans to lower it and straighten out some of the wiring mess and drive it a little. Will keep posting progress. Wait til you see what I have planned for the bed wood.

When you're right you're right. Did the other side this evening. Neighbors drove by and stared like they've never seen anybody letter a junky old truck before. Turned out ok for a temporary job.

Lookin' good. I always love to see how others are doing their conversions. I just finished mine after starting on it about 9 months ago. It took way longer than I anticipated but I'm happy with the results.

I would starve to death sign painting or pinstriping. I could watch a pro and be amazed all day.
Hewittca I have to get this thing on the road or it sits there and eats driveway space. I did drive it the other day a few miles and it drives just as good as it did as a lwb. The camper was a 6 month project last year. Ton of fun but not sure it was worth the work.

Bought a couple of doors in much better shape than mine, my passenger door was replaced along with the bed side years ago with a later model door], anyway. Picked up a really nice 71 seat and belts as well as a visor and rear view mirror. Got the seat and interior parts in today and probably done till I get my lowering kit. Not much progress , but some.

Today I got the first leg of my Western Chassis 3/5 drop in. I have the front done. What a PITA separating 50 year old ball joints. Anyway it dropped it down in the front just right. I have the rear ready to put together. If time allows, I will finish up early this week and post a few pics. I went ahead and ordered new u-bolts cause I knew I would never get the nuts off these. So far it seems like a good kit. Will let you guys see how it turns out.
