Re: Guy trades 64 Chevy for used Camry at work.
Keeping an eye on this.
Note to ALL: If you feel the need to start an argument or have nothing nice to say, just keep it to yourself. Drama is not needed as this is not Facebook...

Re: Guy trades 64 Chevy for used Camry at work.
Garyd maybe you could go out & find a Camry with even lower miles & trade it to the boss for the Chevy!
I agree, we have to deal with enough drama everyday, that's not what we come here for. I once traded a '65 ford pickup w/ a 283 Chevy engine for a '67 Opel Kadet at the Datsun dealership. I thought the sales men were gonna pee all over their selves! But that Opel had 5 brand new tires & got 30 mpg! |

Re: Guy trades 64 Chevy for used Camry at work.
I apologize, Did not intend to insult the OP.
I made the assumption of thinking what a 85,000 mile Camry is worth compared to what the that truck would sell for out here in California and the two were pretty far from each other. |

Re: Guy trades 64 Chevy for used Camry at work.
I once traded in a 66 Super Sport Impala for an 88 Mustang GT back in the day.
Do I say Now what was I thinking? You bet, but I did it then.

Re: Guy trades 64 Chevy for used Camry at work.
While today they may both have close to the same value, in 10 years the Camry will be worth close to nothing, and assuming the truck stays in close to the same condition will likely be worth the same as now or more. I still have a feeling it was more a need than a want for the guy to trade. At the very least, practicality overcame sentimentality.

Re: Guy trades 64 Chevy for used Camry at work.
Man, that's a nice truck. Maybe the guy wanted to rob a bank, and didn't want to attract attention.
Nothing like a souless Japanese appliance for that!

Re: Guy trades 64 Chevy for used Camry at work.
To some people it's only metal. Back in the 80's I bought a done up 71 chevelle 396 4sp car for $200 off a guy that was going to jail. Drove the heck out of it for 6 months then traded it for a 66 Malibu SS 396 4sp car and drove the heck out of it for 6 months then sold it for $200. Easy come, easy go. But I would give my left nut for either right now.

I know the guy and this truck. I worked with Mickey (owner of the truck) for the last 11 years. He retired last year. Yes, he has owned the truck for the last 36 years. I talked with him about this truck and know the story of it when I was looking at parts he had from it. Why he traded.... I don't know, probably didn't want the hassle of tire kickers, low ballers and other junk. The truck just sat in his garage and only had been out a few times to local shows. I will go by his house and talk to him about it.

Re: Guy trades 64 Chevy for used Camry at work.
I am going to say that his wife made him trade it in. That's the only explanation I can think of. A guy who owns that truck for 30+ years is not going to trade it in for an econobox with 80k miles.

Curious, any updates on what happened to this truck?
