Anyone have a 366 truck???

When I purchased my 1967 GMC 1 ton in December 2012, it had a 366 cubic inch motor already swapped into it. I did not drive it much before starting my teardown. However, what little I drove it, I do believe I could have pulled stumps with it. It’s still sitting in my barn today and I have not decided whether I will put it back in or not. I did notice that the front crossmember had been modified to accept the engine. It originally had a 305 CI six cylinder in it.

Go with a sbc 400 or 406 (.030 over). It was used in the early 70's and they are not very common these days. They are great for torque, they can make as much horsepower as you would ever want in a truck, and their most attractive quality is that they are a sbc, so parts are plentiful and affordable.

You would be very happy with a 400, with vortec heads, a good intake, carb and a decent cam.

If you really want to be creative, put a 3.875" crank, 6.0" rods, fancy pistons and a roller valve train. You would not be disappointed with that setup.

And made a great roar when all three were open. I know a guy who modified his intake manifold to accept the truck carburetors, which flow a lot more. I don't remember the details; that was about 50 years ago.

My friend Mike yanked the 350 out of his 74 K5 Blazer back in the 80's and dropped a 400 Pontiac in and loves it. Got better gas mileage both empty and when towing his super gas Vega. It's been all over the west coast. Still has it to this day, but no more trailers for it. Too many white knuckle moments towing with a short wheel base lifted truck. So yes be different!
