Another positive way to look at the purchase is that it will probably be one of the only RV's in your town that is actually going up in value every day, every year....rather than down.
That certainly doesn't happen with the new ones...which start to devalue pretty quickly.
....and that constant gain in value helps offset some of the gas costs that the older units are challenged with...lol.
So darn it....get out there and enjoy that thing!....it looks great but you may spend half your trip fending off campground fans...lol, not that that is a bad thing.

Yes it is. The original open road Monterey came with a 4 piece rear slider. Both center sections opened out. PO had 2 problems with that. 1 it was hard to walk by the table and get out. 2 his Harley would not fit through for toy hauler status!

this one was on cl a few months ago - wish I'd looked into it. Did contact seller, but she didn't seem to be too into selling it - wouldn't take any additional pics, ha! Anyway, wondering if a member ended up buying it - 72 C20 Cheyenne Custom Camper in dk olive.

i just bought this (you can ignore the pickup) 1967 rancho el rae cabover camper. built in nephi utah. it's surprisingly complete and functional. doing a little cleanup and getting it in good working order. i've tried researching it but it seems to be really rare. i can't find a single picture of another one on the internet! if anyone knows anything about them i'd love to hear! it would be awesome to pair this with a 67 pickup.

Yes, do you recognize this place? I found it here posted in the trucks for sale. Bob held it for me so my girlfriend and I flew to oak town (stopped to blaze one with too short) where my friend in Santa Cruz picked us up and drove us there to get it. It needed all six tires replaced. A very interesting story behind the seller as well.







Needless to say my girlfriend was terrified when we got it and all the tires were shot. Went and bought tools, battery,alternator there in Turlock and we was on our way. Lost the battery just before Death Valley. The heater core blew out in Arizona spraying antifreeze all over the ladies legs. Made it through NM during a blizzard with no heat but we got her home.

Rare! 1969 Chevy Open Road one ton chassis mount camper with factory patio door and fold down deck. I have never gotten so many thumps up's and people stoping by to check it out especially when at events and we were setting on the fold down deck! MPC even made a plastic model kit of this exact same truck/camper. first two pictures are when i first got it to show it with the deck on it. have owned for 5 years . selling to help funding to buy a piece of property in the mountains.mechanically sound runs very good. 350 with th350 transmission. original paint no dents or rust. Most of the paint on the camper has been stripped to get ready to spray. Skin has a couple areas that need repaired. Fold down deck and sliding back patio door is Factory original. deck is off right now as I was going to rebuild it. It has a slight bow in it. I use this 4 to 6 times a year and it never fails to start. Has a second RV battery in it with a battery isolator so you will never get stranded by leaving a light on in the camper. Tires are good I wouldn't hesitate to drive this across country. Very rare and hard to find in this condition. For more detailed information calls ONLY!!. Steve

I love those open road units...very cool.
The only thing I struggle with is some of the 'period' look inside in terms of colors, fabrics, etc....that stuff is a little tougher to take....lol.
I bought a pickup camper years ago and it had that 1970's dark wood type interior...and I (and my wife) just couldn't handle that whole 'dark den' look.
So I sanded it all down and repainted it inside to a very bright color....it was way more liveable and 'cheerful' in there.
I did however go with a lot of cool 'period' type fixtures, lamps, shades, stuff like that.
If I find some pics I will post them up.
