IDIDIT 30” Tilt column shift

Well after 11 weeks the IDIDIT column arrived, as specified, complete, no issues with quality...although...this column length IMHO is perfect for manual trans and floor shifter automatics, it’s just not perfect as a column shift unit due to length, it needs to be 1” longer. Even after getting the column as close as possible to the dash (the machined slot in the column helps this) I had to modify the stock firewall mount in order to attach the shifter arm on the bottom of the column.
- I wanted to use the stock mount and firewall rubber seal
- I wanted to retain as much beef in this mount as possible
- I wanted to keep the clock position of the arm on the column (yes, I did try other clock positions but due to the length of the column, the arm hit the firewall if I rotated it out of stock position)
So, what I had to do was “slot” the stock firewall mount about 3/4” to allow upward travel of the shifter arm....first photo...once installed and painted, you can see that I’ve got full travel although the jury is still out about the arm clearance once my shifter cable is installed at a later date. Currently there is only around 3/8” clearance at the closet point.

Suggestions..if you go this route you may want to consider the additional purchase of the offset shifter arm offered by IDIDIT ($6.09 via JEGS or Summit, mine is on order). When the time comes, at least it’ll be here to use if I find after installation of shifter arm bushings and cable retainers something hits the firewall.

If you ever fully disassemble, removing all rivets and bushings, normally you’ll probably ruin the pivot split sleeve at the spring pivot location....if you do, a .223 brass casing can be trimmed to fit.

Thanks, the front clip is off it now so I can finish the front airbag install and swap the LS motor in. Do you know why it took 11 weeks to get a steering column from Ididit? Is that normal?

I was told that they were missing parts, funny you can order the genetic 30” via Summit/ Jegs, but one states many weeks out, the other says shipped within 24 hours. You’d have to cut the slot for the dimple on the generic

Finished welding up the exhaust....yep using stock manifolds on the LS3, using V clamps this time...as all can see, I’m learning to TIG....lots of fun

Finally placed the cab on the frame, gas lines finished and tested. Brakes completed and bled, mounted the Cold Case radiator (making a separate post on this jewel)

Finally making progress.....received the “Cold Case” radiator, shroud, fans and wiring pigtails. I’m very happy with this purchase, Chris and Eric provided everything needed, unit is highly polished, fit and finish of all components are excellent. I’ve left the plastic in place in anticipation that I’ll disassemble everything a couple of times. My LS3 uses 1-1/4” hose connection on upper, 1-1/2” on the lower where the radiator uses 1-1/2” on both upper and lower. I’ve found a gates upper hose (22954) that fits perfectly with about an inch clearance between hose and AC compressor pulley. On the lower I used another gates ( 54#$), but it will require a cut to shorten, haven’t done this yet. As I finalize the trans lines to the radiator, I’ll post. I hope these photos are good enough

I love wiring...located the ECM and trans controller under the battery box, added two relays to the LS3 relay panel, split out the high and low speed fan signals (commoned in the as delivered package), added AC compressor relay...lots of connections. I’ll post a photo once I get this back together, for now I need to remove everything for paint.

It really does seem that I’m making zero progress these past few months, but I’ve accomplished;
PS reservoir mounting brackets and lines are installed
Wiring harness is modified and finished
Broke out the second signal from the ECM For fan control
Added relays and fuses to the LS fuse panel
Disassembled the gas pedal and OBC2 connectors and ran into cab
Ran fuel pump wiring via inside of frame
Ran rear lighting and gas sender wiring via inside of frame
Cut down and tested gas sender to match the No Limit gas tank
Added gas filter on gas vent as a bug trap (dirt daubers in the south)

In the photo, I layed out the gas tank dimensions on the card board and started cutting down the sender so I ended up with a very short unit.Guess I could have bought a short one, but sometimes you work with what you got...

I saw his great installation for the fuel door in the bed, although I couldn’t find an 80s door, I found a long one off or an older Jeep Cherokee. I’m also surprised how many in the upick lot are plastic...so...started with the rectangle and started cutting...at the end I had the bottom of the bed sprayed at ProTec here in Raleigh...I’m very happy with the results

After looking at many PS reservoirs, the March Performance setup didn’t have a pump mounted tank, either a poor design or I’m just uninformed...their instructions suck and i had so many errors with their bolt sizes and assembly instructions. Evidently whoever wrote the instructions never put an assembly together.....anyway...I found a reservoir from a 2007 Fort Escape that fits. Built a bracket that mounts on the side of the LS and added a tubular strut for additional support.this was probably an overkill but gives me peace of mind. All the lines are connected and I’m adding fluid.

What a week...fired the LS motor after I cleared a couple of amateur mistakes, I’d rebuilt the fuse box to add and shift a couple relays, I missed pinned two relays, kinda frustrating because after talking to Chevrolet Performance tech, they sent me the correct wiring diagram. Anyway, don’t always believe that the ECM only grounds relays!! Cleared all my leaks, checked the engine running for a good 20 minutes, temp came up and sitting in the garage with 92 degree weather, the Cold Case radiator keep the engine below 180; fans never came on!, I also got back a lot of painted panels so the front of the truck is going to start looking complete.

Looking a couple of C10s at a car show last month, I saw that one had a cover over the firewall electrical connector. The owner said he bought it, but I could never find a source, so off to Wally World and back with a loaf bread pan....and for those wondering why all cables aren’t under the cover?? 1, I honestly didn’t know that I needed to fill those holes during firewall work, 2, those two cables allowed the brake pedal and OBD2 cables through and provided just enough length so I didn’t have to extend them. I honestly like the look

A local rod shop here in Raleigh, “Busted Knuckle Rod Shop” loaned me a 18x9.5” wheel with a 245/40R18 tire for this test fit. I’ve got about an inch between tire and bed, right now I’m a little unsure about the backspace, but will measure when they arrive. Cy the owner is going to simply order another set as he did for the project car that these belong. I think I’m going with a 255/55R18 tire which will still leave me with 3/4” between tire and bed.
