Re: Are GMC's as popular as Chevy

I see no difference in value between the brothers. Either you want a Chevy, a GMC, or don't care and just go by the condition. But people don't buy GMCs because they are cheaper. That's new car shopping mentality anyway.

I have all the near mint original emblems off that truck. The owner went all new repro on that restoration. It was almost as nice before the restoration.

I have always loved the look of the GMC, just a personal preference I guess, or maybe I am just biased lol.

Re: Are GMC's as popular as Chevy

My answer to the original question = NO.

I like em both, and have both. But no, not as popular, till, you ask a GMC guy. It's like Chevy guys can and do love both, but GMC guys, A lot of them, only love GMC's.
My newest addition to the herd is a 71 GMC. Big block, factory air, tach.tilt.

Re: Are GMC's as popular as Chevy

I chose to build a GMC for the simple reason that I'm less likely to run into another one wherever I go. WARNING: Don't build one unless you like a lot of attention. I'm not kidding.

Re: Are GMC's as popular as Chevy

Chevy trucks do seem to be more popular, but I've always liked the look of the 67-72 GMC. I do like the 67-68 Chevy front end, and the 71-72 is ok (looks too plastic to me), but never liked the 69-70 Chevy grill. I've always felt that way, even before I got my 69 GMC. I do have two Chevrolets though, but they aren't pickups. A newer small Blazer and a 72 Chevelle.

Re: Are GMC's as popular as Chevy

So far in my life I've owned 17 trucks most of them new and only 2 have been chevys. All the rest have been GMC so in my small little world GMC is more popular. I get teased occasionally by my Chevy buddy's but like I tell them. I don't wear a bow tie so why would I make my truck wear one. I'll just drive my peasant vehicle. But ya I guess chevys are alright. Lol

Re: Are GMC's as popular as Chevy

For me, in late models, hands down GMC. I own a 2006 GMC SIERRA crew cab as my family vehicle, best ride I've ever owned (late model). BUT, for me, there is nothing like the front of a '67-'68 Chevy PickUp! A little bit like a Muscle Car with a bed....

Re: Are GMC's as popular as Chevy

I gravitated from Chevy to GMC same as some Chevelle SS or Camaro guys gravitate to GTO or Firebird. I love 67/68 Camaros, always wanted one. But, once I started thinking how cool it would be to have a less common version from the famous for large car with top shelf factory performance company that put their looks on it, that was it. A Formula 400 is my preference.

Also, after messing with Chevys for decades it's a refreshing yet way more challenging change. Just like it's easy to do a red truck with black interior and you know it will be popular. But, how about a dark turquoise with aqua interior or other less common combo and you will meet more challenge.

I also like GMCs because they are a truck company that built some of the most awesome early diesels, military wonder machines, and a pickup was the little toy version...same as International...only GMC survives.

Oh, and GMC did cool things for powertrain. They had V8s and automatic transmission before Chevy. The coolest thing about that was it was a Pontiac engine. GMC also built it's own inline 6s that Chevys never got. Then there was the V6. Say what you will, but we are talking trucks and THAT was a TRUCK motor. Put one of those next to a small block, or big block for that matter, and tell me what you see... BIG! and strong. Their time came and went, but it was GMC who stuck their neck out to try something different.

Most popular has never meant the best. It's just what most people see and here about, the kind who look no further than the next person to decide what is good without searching for the best on their own.

Re: Are GMC's as popular as Chevy

I have always been a Pontiac nut, and GMC was many times sold at Pontiac dealerships. I have had some Chevy trucks, but mostly GMCs for me.
