Re: 1967 shorty or long bed ?

Your truck looks like a great find and I'm sure you will enjoy the hell out of it. It sounds to me like the seller didnt offer and you didn't ask if it was a real short bed and looking at the truck I wouldn't have asked either. Again with that being said when I looked at the spid and seen what was scratched off my radar would have went off and then I would have asked the seller if it was a real short bed. I like most I'm sure would not pay the same price for a non original short bed as opposed to an original one. Drive, enjoy it and as you are aware thses trucks are increasing in value as time goes on.

As far as factory bumpers, there were only 2 for 67-72. The straight cut bumper was for fleet side trucks for 67-72. The one's that wrapped around a little bit were for step sides and will physically be too short for a fleet side. There was no special 67 only rear bumper.

There were aftermarket step bumpers that wrapped around. But they were big and bulky, not sure if you meant one of those or not.

Just an FYI in case you order a step side bumper and it doesn't work for you.

It says M20 on the SPID, but that's where it gets funny. Muncie built truck and car transmissions and for some reason they named two transmissions M20. Your truck had a different M20. It was a granny tranny. The car 4spd are just that, never avilable in a truck. But it's cool your SPID "appears" to show the M20 car trans is original.

I'm one that it matters to. I wouldn't pay a lot more than if it was still the original LWB. Because I'll do the conversion myself if that's what I want. I can't make a factory short bed, so I'd pay more because they were lower priduction. That's how it always worked with classics in my experience. I am a truck guy who does his own stuff. I don't pay big bucks for someone else's work when it's what I like to do. That's half of what it's about. So, if I ponied up for a true (meaning factory) and found out it wasn't, I'd be very upset. If it wasn't misrepresented, than shame on me.

Owning isn't a hobby, building them is. People sitting at classic car auctions with a ton of cash for turn-key are just owners.

Re: 1967 shorty or long bed ?

To Jocko : Interesting Canuck. Nice to finally know the ground truth. So, when you say the builder does great work - is it a replacement actual/original shortbed bed that was patina'ed to match the rest of the truck and bolted to a 71 swb frame or is that the original long bed that has been masterfully cut down, and then the patina re-mastered to cover the welds? Yes, I agree, whatever the case, incredible work.

Yes it is a true short box. The box and frame came from a 67 GMC so the builder told me. Not a 71 SWB frame I stand corrected. The box had been hit on one side so a new side was welded in.

Love the truck and the story. I would like to get the name of your painter, he is good at his craft.
