Wheels: My opinion is use a light color too. But I suggest a much heavier off white than the white your Photoshop shows. I suggest an off white bordering on a very faint yellow to pick up on the yellow/gold in your fauxtina. Lighter, but in the same family.

1. Plymouth tail light - what year, that looks good.
2. What/how did you "shave" down the 6.0 cover? Where did you get that V8 emblem?
3. The gauges look good, but where is the tach?

I believe it was a 1940 Chrysler tail light.
Maybe from a windsor, royal, or New Yorker?

I shaved off the 6.0 Vortec logo with a flap disc. Got the V8 emblem on Ebay, not sure if I love it yet.

No tach, I use my ears. lol

Boys can like cream colored wheels!





And that's coming from someone who also likes black wheels. IMHO, light colored wheels when paint color is dark, dark colored wheels when paint color is light. Makes for good contrast.

hey thanks mongo! it makes me a little apprehensive because I just got the artilleries for the 41 I am working on now and actually planned on black

I had also planned on blackwalls and chickened out on that too, ordered whitewalls. so I may just go with creme again. maybe some quickie photoshop is in order.

Winter progress has been slow. Buyer for the jeep went as far as setting up a place to meet to load it on his car hauler and never showed and went dark.
So. Damn. Frustrating.
On the upside- my Jeep was featured in CRAWL magazine- full eight page spread! Huge honor- and my inlaws framed it for me.


So that hunt continues, but we are staying after it on the truck!

Wired LED tail lights into the 40s Chrysler housings. Ghetto- but it works!




Added some red wires to the engine bay, because I needed 45* plugs anyways.


Got my driveshaft length worked out so it can handle the up and down with the bags.


Wired the windows with electricity and a two way switch


Then made up this funny gizmo to operate them. Cold= window down. Hot= Window up. HA
Chopped up a stock window crank to get the guts- fabbed the rest.

All new glass and rubbers/ weatherstrip installed.




Interior trim done as well.


Got the hood vent working correctly after fabbing a new hinge


Patina'd the mirror bracket


Lined the interior with dynamax. Ceiling and back wall as well.




Got the column shift adjusted so the trans shifts right and stuck on the indicator


Used a headliner from a guy on Facebook. Kind of a PITA, but it looks good now- and installed the sun visors.


And last week's big news was we got our seats back from upholstery!


Back seat mounts need to be redone since we had to move the bed up- but we will knock that out this weekend.


And the biggest news of all, grandpa (Eugene) turned 90 last week. The goal is to be cruising together this summer...

Once the friggin Jeep sells wheels, tires, seatbelts, and carpet- then we tune and drive!

Well boys- I have been HARD after it because they put grandpa into hospice, but the good news is that it all paid off yesterday. Here's where we have been since I last checked in...

THE JEEP FINALLY SOLD. To a local guy even, which freed up the funds to start buying all of the last pieces we needed.


My LS master buddies said I should NOT have plugged the steam port, so let's take the top off again and unplug and reroute it shall we...


The first time I put it in gear to pull it out of the shop....nothing.
I grenaded the trans pump the first time I started it- didn't have it in the third click. Dammit. So, trans out- new pump.




Once that was fixed and it could move, I bought a four post lift from Wildfire lifts. The coolest part is that I can roll it around the shop. AMAZING. How have I worked this long without a lift?


Once it moved we could also see that the oil pan was absolutely going to be the first thing to touch the ground at full air down, so we had to replace it with an F body pan. In order to get the old one out we had to disconnect, well everything, and lift the motor up 2" to clear the crossmember. Sigh...but little one was up to the task and we got it done.


All better


About that time I realized I hadn't put any flex points in my exhaust, so let's pull that out and add those while we are at it...


The next amazing part was hiring a local legend in the pinstriping game- Cliff Anderson- to come and lay some stripes. Boy, am I glad I didn't try and do that myself like I was originally planning to do...














And the best one of all...to see him knock this all out freehand was out of control.


It was about this time that I got news that my Detroit Steel wheels were delayed again, so in order to get it to carpet and alignment I needed some loaners. Not bad for a set of loaners! It's too bad bias ply tires ride so terrible, cuz they sure do look cool...


The first time in the sun. Glorious...


BUt short lived....the rear end felt "weird" when I aired it back and when I investigated I found this.


The frame fawkin twisting where the bags mount. Ugh.
Take the rear suspension apart, box the frame. Good grief.








At this point I think, WE MADE IT! And bring it to get aligned, and to get carpet.




Even ran a quick errand on my way home.


Well, I must have jinxed it. Elec fan wouldn't turn on and it started stinking like diff grease REAL bad. Rear axle seal let go completely- separated the rubber from the metal of the seal. Gave the tire and inner fender a nice grease bath. So, let's take the rear end apart and put in new seals, shall we?


The guys at the parts store just give me my own computer now and let me find my own stuff- it's awesome.


We had to figure out the electric fan as well- but once that was done, we put the seat belts in- from Julianos. They look awesome! Being able to install on a lift didn't suck either.




So I drove it to my buddies house and he caught this pic of me pulling in and laying it on the ground. I believe the term here is "**** eating grin."


Well, all of that drama- and basically the last three years of building led up to yesterday. Man, what a moment. I'm still kind of in shock that it happened and that we got to share it together before he went home to see Jesus.

The Payoff:




He saw his name on the dash and said, "Well, isn't that something." It was suddenly VERY dusty.


We cruised for a bit, and when I stomped on it he said, "Man, this thing is a rocket!" Haha






It was a helluva day.

So my Detroit Steel 20" artillery wheels should be here Tuesday. They will get painted cream, and get a pinstripe or two as well. Once that's done some radials are next on the list. At that points I plan to just drive the wheels off it. Thanks for following along fellas!

My '49 was my healing process after losing my dad and my grandfather within 6 months of each other. It's wonderful that you were able to take your grandpa for a ride, cheerish the memories!

Thanks guys! It really was a special memory that I won't soon forget.

My third seat belt point is hidden behind the seat and mounted in the 'lip' that goes around the perimeter. The only problem is that my seat sits so snug up against it that you have to pull the seat forward a bit to get the retract to work right. I will try and sort that out, but mounting it up high on the B pillar ran it down across my neck and wasn't comfortable. Where it is now it rests just over my shoulder- plenty comfy if I can figure out the retract piece. I will try and get a pic.

Dude!! Your truck is awesome! I just read the whole thread and man I wish I had 1/10th of your skill.

I love the paint and hope it holds up well. I'd love to have a nice patina look, but my truck is mismatched... how long did it take you to get the truck to look like that?

Mongo- The sleeve is a great idea- and is where I was planning on going. Just need a Saturday to get crafty with the welder...

Matt_50- the paint took an entire summer to get finished. It was a LOT of layers and sanding. But it was really fun and worth it at the end.
If yours is mismatched, it's a perfect candidate for this! Just try it and experiment. You got nothing to lose.
