Good point, I had only liability on mine, now it's nearing completion I insured it with Hagerty for $55K. Easy to overlook the increase in value and just drive it. The kids insurance may have no clue as to the value and cost

I sold my last 3 vintage vehicles because when I got them all done and went out to try and enjoy them...never felt safe out there...

Definitely will make sure the current project ride has a modern day steering column and steering wheel too...

That wreck is a eye opener for sure..

Well, it's true that these 60+ year old vehicles were just never engineered to survive a collision like a modern vehicle. We ARE taking our lives in our hands by driving them, I suppose.

I put mounts for shoulder belts into my cab and installed a Flaming River column but I'm under no illusion that if I were hit at any kind of really serious speed, I'll be potentially badly injured (or killed,ugh!). It's the potential cost of this hobby.

The truck means nothing. It's just an object.
If the owner has his life and health, that's all that matters.
Sounds like he has that. He should be counting his lucky stars.

That said, I do hope he can get a good value for the truck from the insurance payoff. Then he can get something new for a replacement and get back to enjoying his hobby.
