Re: 67 Camaro Build

Im not a big fan of Camaros but when you posted Grumps Camaro that brought back some fun memories. I think a 67/68 Camaro set up with the same stance and tire wheel combo would be really cool to bomb around in.

Ha, you know it, we use this lift as a body/frame elevator, paint booth, project storage, etc. it continues to be a great tool!

I think so too, that's the plan, a rake with some Cragar SS’s. Pizza cutters up front and some sticky's in tha back!

Building a jig/body cart that won't fall apart and is next up.

Re: 67 Camaro Build

Some poly bushings, tub o’ grease and oil filter adaptor bolts showed up from Summit. Slid the subframe back under the car again with the new bushings prior to repairing the bad LR body mount hole. Toying with the idea of making our jig able to accept the subframe for front clip fitment later (?).

Re: 67 Camaro Build

Placed an order a few days ago for some 13ga sheet after we were unable to source it locally. Speedy Metals was certainly spendy, Ha, I mean speedy (compared to the cost of a new subframe this was way cheap)! https://www.speedymetals.com/pc-2681...eel-sheet.aspx

Tank swapped and more wire in the machine, our little Lincoln is a happy camper. Here’s the first layer of subframe repair.

Thanks Clyde, it's coming along pretty good.

Flipped over for another pass, added some nice ugly weld on the end like the factory welds. Ha, thinking that'll do!

Thanks Ryan!

Hole’s been punched and subframe test fitted into the car, giving this particular repair a done stamp.

Thanks Chris, since we're only fixing one mount Mr. Picky Pants (me?) wanted to hide the repair.

Back to the jig, mentioned this earlier making both the front and middle supports height adjustable in case we want to add the subframe with its mounts at some point and still level out the body shell. All thread pieces are slotted and cut as long as the tubes so they can be recessed flush but not fall in.

Re: 67 Camaro Build

Yepper, I’m thinking it’s gonna be nice! Hey Ryan, that is a good idea, but no..

Here’s how we’re anchoring the rear, using the old 2-piece frame bushings with the shoulders cut off for a closer flush mount. Then to the risers using the original shackles, it’s pretty dang snug and a bear to install but will hold the car very solid. Getting ready for a gusset party next!

Re: 67 Camaro Build

Argh! Too much heat, pulled the uprights inward towards the gussets dangnabit! The alignment holes up front don’t line up any more, it just barely fit through the subframe and the center support section was off by a knat’s a** of popping into its alignment holes. Cutting the tops off and am resetting them.

It's another Mr. Bean moment...

Sucks when that happens! Can you tack a bar across the top to hold your spacing while you reweld the gussets?

Yeah, tacking a brace in place woulda, coulda, shoulda been a better idea. Or maybe leaving the cars weight on em?

Thanks Bryan!

So, after cutting the four tops off, cleaning off all the not so old weld and trueing everything up again. With the weight of the car tacked them in place with lots of tacks then pulled and final welded them onto the uprights again. Once satisfied with the support to body fit again went ahead and welded up the rest of it. Yippy skippy, shell went right on without any drama this time!
