Re: RetroSound kickpanel speaker
Have 70 K10 pickup, got my kick panel speakers years ago from LMC, no park brake problem, does crowd dimmer switch but have gotten used to it. No trimming etc. 6.5 in. speakers, but sound mediocre at best.....

Re: RetroSound kickpanel speaker
That's the problem with most of these pre-fabbed speaker panels, they don't offer much in depth for a nice speaker. However I'm sure you can run a spacer to get the clearance.

Re: RetroSound kickpanel speaker
Got mine in yesterday. I also ordered 1" spacers from Metra and a pair of Rockford Fosgate Punch 6.5" component set. We will see how it goes.

Re: RetroSound kickpanel speaker
Not really other than I just got the speakers in today. I did a quick test fit Saturday on the panels and they will require some trimming to fit and the e-brake and dimmer switch will need to be moved/modified. That is also running a 1" Metra spacer.

Re: RetroSound kickpanel speaker
I mounted one real quick. This is without the 1" spacer. I may be able to get away with the 1/2". I'll order some in this week and see what I think.
These are the Rockford Fosgate Punch P165-SI Component Speakers. Specs online shows a 2.24" mounting depth.

Re: RetroSound kickpanel speaker
Looks like I'm going to need a .5" spacer also. Where are you sourcing them from?

Re: RetroSound kickpanel speaker
Since I'm a residential audio/video guy, I've got some distributors that carry 12v stuff as well. Metra is the brand I usually use for this stuff. I have their 1" spacers now but that is overkill and definitely in the way of the e-brake pedal.

Re: RetroSound kickpanel speaker
Not too sure yet.
I'm going to try and mount them up as high as I can. I've considered on the dash where the factory AC vents go, also in the corner of the dash reflecting off the glass, or would like on or near the a-pillar. I haven't had time to mess around to finalize the location.

I've got the 1" but haven't had a chance to order the 1/2" yet. Been a crazy week.

Re: RetroSound kickpanel speaker
I bought a set of 1/2" spacers at Best Buy last night and they aren't big enough for my speakers, , (sorry no pics). Looks like I'll have to pick up a .75 or 1" set .

Re: RetroSound kickpanel speaker
Well that stinks. I just looked up your speakers and they are 2-9/16" deep, about 1/4" deeper than mine. Now you got me wondering if I shouldn't just go ahead with the 1". Might as well try the 1/2" as I'll only be out about $10. I've wasted a lot more than that on these trucks

Re: RetroSound kickpanel speaker
As an ex-audiophile I am curious as to why y'all are wanting to run spacers? Are you concerned that the magnet would be resting on the panel, or?
I used a foam tape in-between the speakers and the panel, put sound deadening material on the panel and installed everything. Sounds as good as can be expected with so little space available and as much power I am pushing. BTW, I am using Alpine 6.5's. |

Re: RetroSound kickpanel speaker
I'm getting ready to get these same kick panels. Can someone determine what the deepest speaker that can be mounted in these panels without spacers? With E-Brake so close, I don't want to space out the speakers any more than they will already be. I think a speaker under 2" will work, but if I can get a larger one, that means more options. Thanks.
