Re: LED Headlight Conversion

How about just putting relays and pull the power off the battery and not through the switch?

If that is the only reason you are updating, honestly if you were to just swap out your alternator to a 100 amp unit and run a serious battery you should never have a problem again.

Check these out for a budget friendly LED swap. They are what I run and they easily keep up with the $600 sets for $150. Highly discounted due to being an old generation of them.

Those look good. Not sure how the black will look next to the chrome. Do you think the anti flicker harness is needed?

I didn’t check to see if there were chrome left, not sure how the black would look.

I have them on mine with no anti flicker and they’re just fine. I don’t see a need for the anti flicker harness.

Re: LED Headlight Conversion

It sounds to me like what you really need is an alternator upgrade and a relay setup for your headlights.

Not sure if it matters to most, but the Morimotos' aren't DOT.

The Morimoto's are stamped DOT SAE, so I believe they are DOT legal.

I only mentioned it because I didn't see anything about DOT on the spec page, nor could I see it on the lenses in the picture. If yours actually have that stamped, then they probably are.

I know it does not say it on their page, which is strange. However mine are stamped.

Just because the item has the DOT stamp, doesn't mean it really is. If the company cannot prove (and normally they are proud that they are and will post it on their site) DOT testing, these could be a fake DOT stamp. This is VERY common with Chinese lighting.

Look at J.W. Speaker's site, DOT info is all over it, http://www.jwspeaker.com/products/le...8700-evo-2-db/

Looking again, it does have the info on their website, just not the distributor page I ordered from. They aren’t cheap Chinese crap headlights, they give the JW’s a run for their money.

Well I went with the MORIMOTO's. I'm not sure when they will get here but looking forward to trying them out. Do you guys use the DRL feature or just leave it unhooked?

Good battery, 105 amp alternator and a United Pacific relay set up with halogen headlights work great and brite

Bringing this one up from the grave: What harness do you use to hook everything up? (‘are they plug and play, at all?)

I’m going to order these tomorrow once I know how to install them.

I believe they are standard H4 plugs, so it was all plug and play.

I picked up the Morimotos, too, but I'm having a little fitment issue.

Are you guys simply trimming the bucket for fitment?

Also, anyone have a recommendation for the hookup point for the tan wire, which I assume is either a DRL or turn signal feature?

Re: LED Headlight Conversion

UPDATE:

I cut the factory buckets to let the Morimotos sit down far enough to screw down the retaining ring.

Glad I have spares.
