Re: Things people say when windows are rolled down
Here in the hot, humid, sweltering SE, vintage air is one of the best mods I've done. I LOVE having the windows up.

Re: Things people say when windows are rolled down
I bought my truck 2 years and a couple months ago. I drove it about 6 times, then started the rehab. Now the truck is literally HOURS away from being roadworthy again. I'm so excited to have these experiences! Back when I first bought it, the paint hadn't been buffed out yet so it really looked like a crappy old truck. (Not "patina" but "crap". The previous owner parked it under some pine trees for years, so the truck had a thin layer of mold all over it. NOT SEXY!)

Re: Things people say when windows are rolled down
I keep my windows up and ac on when available. One time comes to mind I'm 16 and driving my 75 nova no ac sitting at a light, guys drive up say you hungry? Next thing I know a half eaten Krystal burger (like White castle just better for you non southern folk) flew by my face and hit the passenger door panel. I never looked over and went on my way.

The comments on this thread have been the best! Thank you guys I needed that this evening.

EVERYwhere.. so needless to say, an hour later I swung by after the car wash, he was still cleaning

Re: Things people say when windows are rolled down
Back in high school I was out cruising one night with a friend in his 71 duster (I was shotgun). We were at a red light in the left turn lane. A car with a couple girls pulled up to our right at the light. We looked over, and they made the "role your window down" gesture. So I did. When the window was down, one of the girls pointed in front of us and said "your light is green".

Re: Things people say when windows are rolled down
I live in rural Alberta. My wife and I had taken the truck to a local county fair. As we were getting out a guy comes up and says “nice truck what year”. I said 67. He says “you the original owner?” I said “yup bought in new when I was 7”

Re: Things people say when windows are rolled down
That is funny. I would have also been 7 when my truck was sold new, and I just didn't have that much cash back then, and of course I didn't know what would be cool in the future, I'm lousy at making predictions. But I do know the guy who bought my truck new, and I'm the second owner.

Re: Things people say when windows are rolled down
I was at a local "old truck" gathering earlier this spring. The wife and I were sitting in lawn chairs a ways away from my rig chatting with other truck lovers. My wife overheard a little boy with his parents that were looking at my truck say how he though my truck was "the coolest truck here". She told me about it and I chuckled as my truck is faded original paint and 3 different colors as the front fender and hood are from other trucks. Also areas of gray primer in spots to boot.
I walked over to my truck and told the little boy that if he could open the door he could sit in it. He looked to be about 5 years old. While his parents looked on, he pushed the door button with everything he had and muscled the door open. I let him crawl inside and plop on the seat. As he grabbed the steering wheel and the B&M floorshift he had a grin from ear to ear. I had to laugh as I couldn't figure out that from all the show trucks, and other trucks in better shape than mine... this little kid took a shine to my rig. His parents thanked me and I shook his father's hand and they walked off to look at more trucks. They came back by later in the day and the kid's father wanted to thank me again, because sitting in my truck made his son extrememly happy. That made my day... all because my wife overheard a little boy say my truck looked cool. Gary

Re: Things people say when windows are rolled down
My wife drove mine (ours) yesterday by herself for the first time. When she got back home I received a very excited text giving me the count of thumbs up, waves, double takes and "nice truck" comments. A woman in a new truck is a non-nonoccurence around here but driving a classic gets them a LOT of attention!

Re: Things people say when windows are rolled down
Let’s all of us remember these comments when we contemplate selling ! I’ve been thinking of letting my 71 GMC go to another home, but every time I read a post like this I change my mind....

Re: Things people say when windows are rolled down
I'm 5 years older than mine. When I was 45 a young cashier gal at a tractor supply store asked if I was a senior citizen to get a discount. I was shocked and replied NO!! Stupid me should have said yes for my discount and asked if a date was out of the question.

Re: Things people say when windows are rolled down
Its threads like this that make this website a great place to be member and thanks dmjlambert for starting this one. I get lots of thumbs up and looks with mine and the odd "Do you want to sell " note left under the windshield wiper. I'm heading to a small town Car show this Saturday and really like taking it to shows as some children seem to be fasinated with the old truck and I've let a few sit inside and I dont think you would get the same smile from the little ones if they had eaten 6 ice cream cones. To me the kudos and reactions to the truck are a part of the experience of owning it.

Re: Things people say when windows are rolled down
When I had had other rides I got the usual thumbs up or nice car etc, with this truck all I get is "Hey are you interested in selling it?"

Re: Things people say when windows are rolled down
Not with the window down, but when I bought my truck I drove it to work one day. I had a really good 18 year old girl employee that I thought alot of and treated like a daughter.
I said hey, look at this truck. She said that is "so cute". I couldn't drive my truck for a month because of shame and never thought of her so highly afterwords. Not really, but she did burst my bubble for awhile lol. She comes back and works for me in the summer while at college and I still rass her about that comment. 2 years later she still apologizes. Re: Things people say when windows are rolled down
I looked at and commented on this thread earlier this afternoon and then went with my truck to meet a buddy for coffee. I had backed into my parking spot and when i came out there was a 2006/7 tired Impala beside me nose in and the window as down in it. So i'm sitting in my truck texting my wife and the window was down and the guy with the Impala comes out of the coffee shop and heads for his car. He wasn't even looking at my truck and when he gets beside me he says wow nice truck and I really like the color. Then i got "did you restore it and i said no bought it pretty much the way kit is" Then he climbs in his car and he puts it in reverse moves about a foot then stops and says to me " wanna trade me straight across for my impala" so i smiled said "no thanks" and then he starts laughing like a hyena as he backs out and leaves. I thought this was so timely considering this thread I had just read earlier today.
