Re: Is This You ?
I've still got my first car and the girl I met 30 years ago in it, my first wife. Come to think of it, I still have my first calculator, baseball bat, glove, and football too. I tend to look after my things I guess, as I didn't have many!
As for hobby vs family, your hobby should never cause your family to want for your time or funds. But if you can afford your level of hobby, party on!

Re: Is This You ?
My lady went from "your not really going to buy that" about one of my projects to " I love cruising in this truck" once it was road worthy. If she hasn't accepted my car addiction yet, she never will!

Re: Is This You ?
My wife was all for me buying my truck until she saw it. Then she told me she did not think it was worth buying and she thought we ought to save the money. All she saw was rust, dirt, grease, scratches dents, bad paint, old tires, and an old interior.
After 2 days of hearing our friends and neighbors talk about how much they liked it she was back on board, although still apprehensive. After the first couple rides in it and the comments we received she finally saw why I and others found the truck so appealing. My daughter was in love with it a first site and can't wait until I teach her to drive a 3 speed. She wanted to go to her prom in it. Her friends had dozens of prom pictures with it. My son still thinks it is an old piece of junk. My wife and I never make big purchases without discussions. All our income and accounts are joint. It is not very often we disagree about finances and we are both content with what we have built and accumulated together.

Re: Is This You ?
First wife....thought anything I did was a waste of time and money...period.
After 20 years that ended...but the funny thing in the divorce she claimed how much my old trucks were worth like they invaluable . Fast forward....current wife unit helped me strip my truck down to bare frame for full restoration....loved every miniute ....loves to drive around ...literally digs it....and if I'm in the shop and she is home...here she comes. She is even helping me look for a 55 chevy to build for her. Good ones are out there....but sometimes you don't find them till later.

Re: Is This You ?
Three types of women...
1.) Those that leave you to the peace of your shop. 2.) Those that help you in the shop. and 3.) Those that don't deserve a man with a shop.

Re: Is This You ?
Some great stories and perspective here...relative to the first pic.
One thing you can do to add perspective to women who might agree with that opening pic is this: ...what if the pic was of a guy yelling at his wife that she was NOT going to be spending any more money on shoes or she was definitely NOT going to be joining a book club. I'm guessing that type of 'male oppression'...wouldn't go over so well, lol. Its funny how once the shoe is on the other foot...perspective opens up. As for myself, I too am lucky. My wife always knew I like this stuff and always supported me....to the point of encouraging often to keep going with it at times when I lost a bit of interest. They are out there....the good ones, you just have to find them. That said, I know a lot of guys that 'have it coming'...they are secretive and evasive about the hobby and don't consider their wife or their family when they come to spend money on it and often this is money they can't afford. If you are over spending...and you have other responsibilities more important....you should reconsider what you are doing or at the very least, be honest about it. Most guys are....but some guys aren't. All good Coley

Re: Is This You ?
My wife fell in love with my ‘67 Chevy before she did with me. I went to hang out with her brother one day and hitched a ride with him while I left my truck at their house. While I was gone, she went and took a bunch of pictures while posing next to my truck. I didn’t find out about this until long after we started dating. Now, she comes and sits in the shop with me while I work. Even gets me tools and beer from time to time.

Re: Is This You ?
I've had several C10 trucks over the years. Been divorced but not truck related. Now I've been dating the same woman for 6+ years and she has put almost as much time in restoring my current truck as I have. Im debating on getting another project truck and she is all for it.
But at the end of the day you still need to make time for family and make sure family and finances come first. Truck parts can be replaced, family cant. Its easy to forget that when you've been dying to buy those new set of wheels and tires! |

Re: Is This You ?
This can all be turned around and applied to the issues women have finding a good man.
They are just lucky they found us.

My wife doesn't care what do, as long as it's not her.
