Re: 68 Golden Anniversary pickups, interest in them, etc...

[QUOTE=KevinK7;8365354]Relatively new here, but I was lucky enough to grab one recently.

Still all original ( 6 cylinder Turbo 400)

Kevin: I'm a little jealous. You got an actual anniversary model.... Good for you! Are you going to restore it or drive it??

Have made a little progress on the Camaro... Nothing like you are used to seeing though. Got the firewall welded up, a new floor in, patched some other places, and got the new dash installed. Will be starting quarters and trunk when funds permit...

Congratulations on the truck! Let me/us know what your plans are!!!

I think I remember the new owner was selling it. He contacted me about my 9 foot bed and extra side steps I had, but the price was too high or too far a distance.

It's pretty cooll that Chevrolet did this to commemorate their 50th year of making trucks!!!! NOT just trucks, but the very best trucks ever made!!!

I just bought my good friends 2005 1/2 ton SWB 2WD pickup from him, a few months before he passed away. I helped him pick it out when he bought it new.
I was getting it insured through my agent. She asked what brand it was. I told her, it's a Chevrolet, what other brands of pickups do they make???? She was young and clueless...
I believe only the op can post a poll in a thread, others can't..

but it's looking like a moot point, seems the general consensus around the board is no new sub forums..

oh well, let everyone pile in here, make it the 68 Golden Anniversary MEGA Thread

likin' the pictures and comments above

and special shout out to Kevin, nice truck! anymore pictures, interior, engine room? thanks..

good luck y'all!

Thanks Darrell,
Plans are to LEAVE the patina but do the mechanicals, replace the 6cyl with a 350sb (from a '67 Camaro , and rebuild the Turbo400. Add disk brakes, and drop it. Lastly, swap to shortbed and DRIVE it

Re: 68 Golden Anniversary pickups, interest in them, etc...

I've done all the mechanical repairs needed on mine and have left the paint as is.
At our local meets,I often get asked when I'm going to restore it or at least get it painted.
I don't plan to!
The reason? It's mine and I like it just the way it is!
I think it's a unique truck, compared to all the lowered and modified stuff out there.
So far,I never seen another anniversary around here. Not even at Crusin the Coast.

I looked at this truck yesterday. 2 owner same family, restored 20+ years ago. Imron paint. 307, interior is original, rocker repair a little off, but presentable. Has had 72 rearend and front disc brakes installed, along with rallies.

Greg,
Thanks for sharing. When mine is done, I hope for it to look like your pictures. Mine has a chrome front bumper, and mine will have 5 luggers and front disc brakes...

Re: 68 Golden Anniversary pickups, interest in them, etc...

I asked the owner about a chrome front bumper, since it is on the SPID. He said he can never remember it having one. He bought it from his uncle in the 80s.
He told me best offer over 16K.

Great looking truck and has the original invoice, that's pretty cool.
I'm planning to keep mine in patina, but they sure look good painted

Here's some pics of the 9ft step side C30 50th anniversary truck that cypressbog is referring to. CST with buddy buckets, 327, etc. I bought it several years ago because I thought it was so neat and I always wanted a 9 foot step side (although someone shortened the bed on this one). In the end it's condition was too bad for me to deal with. I sold it to a board member in FL and now a board member in MS has it, the last I heard. If they made more than a handful of 50th's like this one, I'd be surprised. It may be one of one. Who knows?

I saw that! What did you use to remove the previous topcoat of paint?

About 20 years ago, I cleaned mine up, Sanded the rusty spots and shot a couple of coats of cheap black enamel, just to protect the body. Not sure it was the very best idea, but it helped.

Looking forward to more of your work!!!

Re: 68 Golden Anniversary pickups, interest in them, etc...

I love them all but the 68 50th trucks are my favorite. If I ever run across a swb fleet real deal 50th I will find a way to buy it. Keeper for sure.

The repaint was crappy but that was good for me . The gold paint comes off in sheets with a razor scraper and the sealer looks to be lacquer they sealed the whole truck Sands right off with 600 not much prep to the original paint either so it buffs up nicely
