What is this speed warning dash all about? I'm not familiar with it?

Hmm I'd be a little wary of something like that...having a turbo adds many possibilities for things to break. But being from the rust belt, the body alone is worth it, lol.

Also, wtf is up with speedwarning? I just don't understand why everyone wants it. It isn't practical and rare like towhooks IMO...just kind of dumb. Oh well.

I thought the idea of haveing a 4x4 truck was not to have to get dragged out by the towhooks! hehe
Speedwarning has a cool factor to it.....i wouldn't buy a speedwarnign dash myself, but it would be nice to have and show off

Several people have asked what the speed warning was and still no answers. I'm intrigued myself, can somebody please explain what this is. Is it model specific? Is it a chevy/GMC thing? Why did they come up with it in the first place? Trucks back then were built for working not for racing. I'm kinda perplexed by the purpose and function of the speed warning.

Thanks if anyone can explain what the speed warning is all about.

Larry,

Speed Warning was an option on trucks, usually 67-70. I don't remember offhand seeing any 71 or 72 trucks with it, but I'm not sure. It was also available on the bigger (C/40 and up) trucks.
Basically, it adds a little knob onto the dash bezel above the speedo, and if you turn this knob, a white line will move on the speedometer, to select a speed. Then when you are driving, if you hit the speed that is marked with the white line, a buzzer goes off. I think this was used back in the day to save on gas, maybe. It seems kinda stupid to me, cuz you could just turn the knob all the way to 120 and forget about it. Oh, and I have seen the speed warning on both idiot light and gauge dashes. Hope this helps a little.

more info from the guy, havent bought it yet

the body does have some filler one spot on the side of the box on the drivers side has a patch about 12" diameter over a dent that was pulled out, but could not get all the way out, and also in small patches through out mostly where there were nicks and where i had ground something down. It is not a clay pot and the body work is not bad, it is not show, but really not at all bad. I had this engine apart once, just to put in a new cam and a new oil pump. It had been rebuilt before it seems as the pistones were .40 over so it has been bored by someone before, there is little ring groove, the rings are good, the heads seem to be fine, but it is starting to get a slight knock , probably a rod bearing it sounds like to me. It probably has quite a few miles on it since it was rebuilt, maybe 50-70 k would be a guess
