I was planning to do the replacement on the 12 bolt, as I was planning to do the replacement on the Dana 44.

But, by the time I pay for all the parts, I'm into it for close to a thousand dollars. Tru Trac posi unit, ring and pinion, bearing, seals etc. Puts me pretty close to a grand.

A friend of mine who runs a shop (and obtains a discount) on the parts, will complete the entire job for $1,168.00. And he does this stuff weekly, versus me hardly ever doing it. So I'll drop the rear end off to him on Monday, and probably be able to pick it up on Wednesday, or Thursday at the latest.

Well...since I took the leaf springs out, I may as well take out the fuel tank and check to make sure all is well there too.

Now....the cleaning begins.

Finding the original owner undercoated everything. And what was missed with undercoating is covered with so much sludge it just wasn't possible for rust to set in.

I remember experiencing the exact same thing with the undercoating on my blazer. Just like yours, mine was 1/4" thick under the wheel wells and bedside. It might have come like that from the factory?

Leaf Springs taken apart, cleaned, painted and new bushings installed.

Got the 12 bolt rebuild completed. Tru-Trac posi traction unit, 410 gears, new bearings and new axles.

Took fuel tank out. Cleaned it, and painted with body armor paint. Same for the frame.

LOL! Yea, I probably should have just taken the body off.

The whole idea was to just rebuild the motor, do a few things and get it going.

Unfortunately, it just grows and I may as well do this now.....and so on.

Another update!

Went ahead and ordered the Original Air Stage II kit for the replacement of the old air compressor, and swapping out to 134a refrigerant.

Looks like I'll have to remove the original factory AC brackets. Not something I like to do, but it's a must with the new compressor.

Yea, thanks. I just observed them in my parts box today.

Also, working on the AC dog house. Turning our pretty darn good. That Harrison sticker is the original one that was on the unit.

The seal kit I ordered was not good at all. Definitely wasn't the correct one for my AC Dog House. I'll have to check the order, as I need to make sure I ordered for an AC unit.

I just ended up fabricating my own.

Thanks for the comments. I picked this one up recently. 104K mile original, AC, tilt wheel, bucket seats, 373 posi-traction. Great little truck. I will restore it once the Jimmy is on the road, and after I finish the restoration on the '63 Corvette. All I've done is put on the 33's.
