Here's mine. It's a Hagan push-to-open style. I also have the Hagan gas cap that you don't have to remove to put gas in.

1st thread I ever read here was the one for rear gas tank. Saw roger55's post and said that was what going to do...way before I even started working on my truck. Saw several other very cool ideas on this thread. Kel

This^^ strikes me as the answer a question no one was asking!

It's "trick" - but it's showy for the sake of being showy. Not that that is all bad but if it gets in the way of using your truck the way you want - unloading a bed full of stuff to gas up, then I think it isn't well thought out.

A lot of cool ideas well carried out in this thread. Better than mine, frankly. I like Mark's (Black Sheep) but I don't know how he managed to locate where to drill his board SO exactly?! My Tanks, Inc. "special" tank supposedly made for our TF trucks had the filler come up exactly where one of my bed strips fell. I had to seal it and weld in a new location - ugh!

My personal favorite is still JJ's. His is just a recessed gas cap in a stainless kitchen sink drain escutcheon (I think). It's simple, it saves the wood finish from spilled gas, and just looks clean to me.

Obviously you had to cut it out of the donor and cut the right size hole in your truck. But other than that, was there a lot of metal work prior to spot welding it in?

Didn’t cut it out from a donor, bought the cap from someone locally but I see them all the time for sale on EBay. I made a cardboard template 1st then the metal. I’m a novice at doing anything like this and thought I’d bitten off more than I could chew but it turned out ok to me!

Thanks Ogre. You can get a cap from any XJ6 I believe up trough ‘86. Here’s one on eBay for $15.

I made a cardboard template pretty much like this but it wasn’t too difficult, just had to make sure it flowed with the contour of the fender and was positioned in such a way that it wouldn’t hit the bed roll when it was open. I am by no means a metal fabricator nor have any experience doing anything like this, but with the help of countless videos on welding I was able to make it work. Bondo and body filler are my friends! Lol!
