Re: Forest Service Trucks

Glad you brought the thread back. It's always good to see another park service truck. The park service used trucks this color some, too. Not sure if I already showed it

Re: Forest Service Trucks

Since you all don't seem to mind old threads brought back to life- in my defense, I signed up several months ago but the registration didn't fully take until recently- this is my '02 K2500 with the 8.1/ZF 6-speed combination. Til 2011 it lived in New Mexico, I believe, working for the Forest Service. It now leads the life of a farm truck. Someday, if it holds up and I can ever afford to retire, I might put a camper on it and start going to the national parks.

Welcome from another Iowa boy.....

Hard to believe the Forrest Service bought a truck with an 8.1 in it. Usually they spec'd the smallest power plant they could get..

Nice looking truck!

Re: Forest Service Trucks

Thanks for the warm welcome everybody.

LockDoc: this one is a little more optioned-out than the traditional Forest Service truck- AM/FM/cassette deck radio, AC, cloth seat- vinyl floor mat and manual windows and locks though. They also added a gooseneck plate and brake controller, so it was set up perfectly for a farm truck. When it was first here, my brother's kids were briefly amused by rolling up the windows by hand- they'd only ever seen power windows before.

72 tigger: I think in the late 60s they were using the light green- which shows up well on an overcast/foggy day- but the truck in your photo could have been owned by a state or local park. I really like the darker shade of green, that is a nice truck.

Re: Forest Service Trucks

One of my friends has an old forest service truck. The guy he got it from took the original bed off cause he had BIG plans for it . The doors still have three screws in them from the forest service signs that were on it.

Re: Forest Service Trucks

I'd love to find the paint code so I could paint my 98 3500hd this color. it white now, but it was a highway truck so Its orange underneath. fs green would be much better.

in BC, forest service trucks used to be very similar to that color, Woodland green.
after searching for a couple yrs for my crew, i got my '85 crew FST at a surplus gov auction.
they used to order them right...factory 454/t400/205, 14 and 60 axles, plus a bunch of other good stuff as well. steering, oil and trans coolers, dual batts and gas tanks, block heater, HD rad, rear slider, cold climate package and 4:56's. pretty bare inside as most fst used to be, gauges, pulse wipers, am radio, cig lighter and a rubber matt on the floor. no headliner or pillor covers anywhere, all bare steel.
everyone said i should have painted it black or blue, but i kept the green, and almost never see that color up here anymore as our FST were changed to a dark blue about 20-25 yrs ago.
good stuff and no fluff...

Primarily, yes. But they used the Woodland Green, white, tan, and I've seen red. That light green was a Dept of the Interior color

I'll add my newest acquisition and bring the thread up.
1988 S10 Blazer I'm fourth owner including Uncle Sam. Supposedly was in service in the Medford OR area. Came from GM with 2.8 V6 manual transmission, no AC, manual windows and rear window defroster.

It's cool to see a Forest Service truck customized a little in original color. The gov't ordered some unique combinations of options.
I had an '85 Diesel Jimmy that the dealer brought in for Maryland-National Capital Park & Planning Commission that they did not purchase for some reason. Quite a mouthful even when abbreviated, MNCPPC. I bought it from the original owner. Their color is Buckskin Tan and they run GMs.
Base Sierra trim, but diesel gives carpet and sound proofing. Power windows & manual locks. 6.2 diesel/700r4.
