The good thing is our trucks are still popular. Lots of old guys dying off that own Model T's or 1920s era cars that there is just no market for anymore.

I guess every antique that isn't a family heirloom was sold or given away by the family... for any number of reasons.

I'm sentimental and I cherish the things I have that were my dad's. He had four '60s Land Rovers that I liked but I didn't care to own. Not practical like a Chevy. I used to think about Chevy-fying one, his first one. But when he decided to let them go I let them go. If he still had them when he died I think I would have kept the '62, first one he bought and let the rest go. We both had a gaggle of same type old vehicles. Like father like son. Just had different preferences.

People who correct other people's typos can be some of the biggest nuisances around - not just because they're pointing out flaws, but for the added conceit of thinking they're doing you a favor.

Some folks should recognize their own flaws 1st.

When I went to buy a GMC from a old man who had it for sale on the side of the road I showed up with cash and so did another guy who he wanted to use it as a landscaping truck he had a stack of cash also. The Old man told me he chose me because he wanted to see the truck go to someone who would cherish it and have it fixed up. He could tell I loved it but I couldn't even drive a manual but learned on that test drive around the block lol. He told me to bring it back when I did start to fix it up. Sad thing is I missed that opportunity he passed before I could. Still bummed about it today but the silver lining is I brought life back into his old truck and that is what he wanted.

My son and I are both Journeyman Mechanics, he's into modern Japanese Hot Rods (Subaru, Honda Civic etc.) and his Jeeps, doesn't really care about my old timers apart from the 1960 VW #117 Beetle I had when he was born (he's 41) and my old 1963 Porsche 356B Coupe, both just sit uncovered in his back yard rusting away....

I've tried to find him good $ buyers but he says 'they're your old cars dad !' and that's that, refuses to cover them, won't let me buy covers...

I've told him to just send all my old crap to the dump when I die, too much hassle to sort and sell it all I'm sure.

At least I had fun with all of it and him too before me got married and started his own family .

Have fun now, don't worry about your left overs, no one else will .

Not a bad thing at all. I was given a golden opportunity with the 68 step side I'm building now with my daughter that a friend's dad bought new in 68. He has had it ever since I even got the original title to it when he gave it to me.
He didn't want it, his kids didn't want it.

So now my daughter and I are making our memories with it.
First picture is Donnie giving my daughter the paper work for it when we picked it up.
My daughter has been in the shop just about everyday with me since I started on it.

I wouldn’t say the hobby is dying by any means, case and point. Look at the price of replacement parts and the companies making parts for the 67-72 and squarebody trucks. My kids love old trucks because it allows them to play and use their mechanical skills while helping me. Will they be as crazy about c10’s as myself, probably not but they will most likely be hot rodders of some sort. Long live hot rodders!

I gave my 65 GTO to my son and my 70 GTO convertible to my daughter, both are show quality cars. I hope that they will enjoy them for many years, but I told them when/if they are no longer interested in the cars they can sell them -they are theirs now. Both are taking great care of them and are cognizant of the value and the importance of protecting them. They know that the cars were important to me as I put a lot of sweat and dollars in restoring them. That makes them important to them. Maybe after I am dead they will sell them. I won't care. In the meantime, I get to see them enjoying them. I'm glad that the owners of the truck hope to sell it to someone who has a passion for it so that it lives on being maintained and restored when needed. I know that made a million of these trucks, but I like to see the good ones kept good.

Kids are individuals and trying to force your passions on them isn't going to work. We are all different.

We are cleaning up after my Fathers in Laws passion because he wouldn't get rid of anything. We will one large dumpster with junk and trash. Now we are wading through the rest. I am sure we have thrown away money because we don't know anything about tit or that small circle of people that might be interested in some of the stuff. We hate it but we have to get ti cleaned up so she can sell the house and land.

Yep. It happens- I inherited several cars and while neat I couldn’t keep them all. Kept my faves and sold the others. Pops was a business man, he would understand.
My kids are still young but hopefully I can get them in to old cars. Taught one to drive my 68 c10 (stick, of course) when he was 6. They both like that rig but we’ll see

I hate that it's visibly rusting, he makes over $87K / year, maybe not much $ to many here but well over twice what I ever made in a single year .

A guy I know told me he'd give my son $32,000.00 for it sight unseen and I told him thinking he'd grab it having a house, kids and so on but no....

Go figure .

He did take a few vintage VW's, good .

I wonder how much will be left by the time he decides to touch it again .

I agree, we cannot expect our children to have the same interests as we do, my father was a world famous Oncologist (and jerk to boot), we shared very little in interest so I understand my son's lack of interest in all my old cars, parts, tools, books and crap .

I've tried to get him interested in selling it all off, nope, not interested so it'll all go in the county dump after I'm dead I guess .


SWMBO keeps telling me to get a few (!) roll off dumpsters and pay someone to empty out the house, garage and back yard, be done with it all but I grew up with nothing and worked oh so hard to get all this junk, now I have difficulty letting go if it .

I've been giving away Motocycles and parts here and there for a good twenty years and haven't made a dent yet .

Sigh .

I really like hearing about an 18 Y.O. Woman taking interest, that's great .

I agree with you on that. So why is my quote involved in your post? I made no corrections, just playing along having some fun. It's humor. I was hoping to get a chuckle out of some. Some folks should recognize humor when they see it. Especially when it comes from someone they are familiar with who is not known for going around correcting peoples' typos. I only correct inaccurate info for the sake of keeping things straight, since this place is a major resource for these trucks at this point.

Got any comment on my statement I hoped would cover the whole topic across the board? That was my reason for posting (other than ad a little humor).

I was on the opposite end of someone knowing my history with old blue and wanted double what I thought it was worth for the sentimental value.
And oddly enough it had changed hands again and I bought it from that guys son that wasn't interested in it.

Ok then, sorry. I took your comment wrong thinking you took me wrong. I'm glad we're good. That's how I thought it was. Sometimes my comments are not so clear as humor because I like it dry .

It really bugs me to see the grammar cops do their duty as well. We are all of different backgrounds with varying abilities. And some just don't give a damn as long as you can get their meaning. When you see a person post a full paragraph of badly spelled words, no punctuations, etc do we really think they aren't already aware of what they do? Do we think they can become literary wonders just by letting them know? I see their less than up to par writing as a challenge, mind exercise if you will, for my brain of extraordinarily superior intelligence . I can always get their meaning.

I don't know about the other classic vehicles, but I have found through the years that these 67-72 GM Trucks have more sentimental ownership than any other vehicle I have ever known. I have seen more original owner trucks 40-50 years later. Many of these trucks were the last truck the owner ever needed to buy (or wanted). They didn't let their kids have them! I have seen more heirloom trucks than any other vehicle. Right now today I can't think of a more popular classic vehicle than these trucks. They are the topic of many TV shows, companies are focused on offering new products for these trucks, advertising uses them to a great extent, movies, music videos...
. People want these trucks!

If your kid doesn't want your truck when you die, someone else's kid will
