Thanks Randy, I thought about heat but was worried that close to the box and with all the aluminum. I will try that after this and before I pull it to a bench.

I doubt it, everything I read said replace the expansion valve every time.

Yeah, for $25 it’s a no brainer. Also required for warranty to be valid when you replace the compressor.
