With the scout, it's really heavy enough already. When it gets icy out I like to use chains though... they help a lot. I've gone up a mountain before with the front end pulling me around steep and sharp turns being able to feel the rear end unsuccessfully try to add traction.

He lives in Twin Falls, and works in Jackpot, NV. He manages an RV park, and small airport for the company that owns the casino in Jackpot....

cement side walk blocks is what I use to use when I had a 2wd, layed 4 of them down and you could still use the bed to haul stuff, kind of lazy now that I got a 4x4, but the weight wouldn't hurt

Remember we are adding weight for traction and not lowering the cheapest way....1000# is way more than enough, if the truck squats, the pumkin drags in the snow and can slow you down.

back when I lived where winter lasted 6 months, we used to use about 400# of your favorite heavy stuff, and drove all over the trails and pastures in a 2 wheel drive.

Add weight til just a little squat.....

How bout 3 fat Chicks ??? They can usually be found at lunchtime grazing around Mcdonalds. I figure the 3 of them would weigh nearly 600-800 lbs, and if they were to fall over they are soft enough that they won't dent the back of your bed. Just have a supply of cheese burgers to toss in the back while driving and they should stay put, happily chowing as the 3 of them chew the fat. LOL

I'd rather have a couple of dozen of what you've got in your avatar back there!

Turns out weight isn't much of an issue this time around. The contents of my completely full bed are 4 used tires, a demolished glove box insert, a 10-foot piece of cable donated by the local phone company, and snow, snow, snow!

BTW, we're at 22 inches and counting! I took my truck for lunch at noon and when left at 3:00 this afternoon the snow had built up to the bottom of the doors. I spent 10 minutes gently coaxing that monster out, but I wasn't gonna shovel, dammit!

The people that were watching laughed... until I got 'er broke free and drove away!

I had 3 Pine tree trunks in mine. My girlfriend at the time had a couple 40 ft pine trees fall in her yard. Her grandfather cut them into 6 ft sections, and I put 3 of them in the truck. Worked great! They were about 14 inches in diameter and were very heavy. I actually broke a carrier bearing I think from the added weight. It sagged the back of the truck enough to tear the rubber from the bearing. I'm still trying to burn those logs and it's been 6+ years! They take forever to burn up.

Old fashioned sand bags that you can buy at most gas stations here for a couple of bucks a piece. 40 lbs a piece. I put a 2 x 4 or 2 x 6 across between the wheel wells to keep them at the back. I use about 10 of them and the traction is great.

when i lived in illinois i always filled the bed with snow. you would be surprised hevy it gets plus if you wipe out you dont have to worry about something flying out of the bed and hitting you in the back of the head. my wifes father had some blocks in the back of his truck and when he crashed one hit him in the back of the head and that is how he passed away.
