Foam is in. Thinking about this heater in a 100k or 125K. https://www.modinehvac.com/products/...wer-vented-hd/
I have 16 four foot led's ordered. I'm also using 6 UFO's - 3 on each side of the lift bay. https://www.e-conolight.com/c-lite-l...-foot-38w.html https://www.e-conolight.com/led-roun...reflector.html

Re: Pole Frame Garage
WOW! I'm really jealous! That is an amazing building! It's coming together really nicely! That foam insulation is really nice. This will make for a very cool work area!

Re: Pole Frame Garage
That foam looks great! How does it compare with fiberglass batts on price? R-value etc.
Are you planning to line the interior? The reason I ask is my 48 x 60 is going up next week. Greg

Re: Pole Frame Garage
Every inch of foam is r7, and they recommended 2”. However, my construction buddy told me you can’t compare R to R since this stuff is closed cell and it seals. 2” inch of this (r14) is better insulation than an R38 blown in. I can’t say for sure. I do know it increases the structural integrity of the building tremendously and helps a lot with sound dampening. I am putting metal up inside as well. They make an FJ channel that accepts the ceiling panel and wall liner. As far as cost I didn’t price batts, but this is expensive. The walls were $4,000. To line the gable and roof to complete it seal the building is an extra $5,000. I’m undecided on the ceiling/roof insulation yet. The budget appears to be breaking.

Re: Pole Frame Garage
Looking good, I used 2 bats of R 19 side by side for ceiling. Don't know if it's the most effective. Because we get a lot of wind I used foam blocks to seal the ends at the top of the walls.

Re: Pole Frame Garage
Interested in learning more. That’s the way I’m leaning. What type of blocks? I need to block off the eaves but still allow it to vent (I think). I’m not a carpenter or construction guy - electrician by trade.

Re: Pole Frame Garage
Dow...1" blue foam, cut with knife or table saw ( table saw tends to grab...be careful ) filling in between, cut a couple samples and fit......go higher than insulation, but allow air flow over the top from eves...sofit. wedge fit and caulk in place, over top of wall close to outside edge.....2" pink foam might be better on yours with longer pieces

Re: Pole Frame Garage
i definately could have saved money on the lights, but I have bought cree lighting before and was very pleased and they have a 5 year warranty. I haven't had any issues yet. I like the narrow footprint - it will fit nicely between small ribs on ceiling.

Re: Pole Frame Garage
thinking about these to keep the vent and close off the soffit. https://www.homedepot.com/p/Owens-Co...70RM/204848302
I will run wire in the wall and put a 3/4" hole in the inside metal and use a plastic grommet to feed the wire through inside panel. My boxes will be surface mounted using the top holes in the box to fasten through the metal and to the purlins. I thought about running a 1 1/4" pvc trunk line on the surface and dropping out of T's where i want receptacles, but i don't want to see all that PVC. I will also run a 2'PVC from the panel up the inside wall to the attic for future wire runs if needed that way i can drop the romex through the conduit and not need to take off metal panels. The ceiling will have 2-50' retractable receptacles and air lines. I'll also pull a piece of 14/3 romex from the house to turn the pole barn exterior lights on from my attached garage.

Re: Pole Frame Garage
Keep in mind that the blown in could be cumbersome to deal with if you ever need to access the attic or drop in another light or so. It's still on the table for me, but i'm not convinced it is right for me. i'm also considering spraying the ceiling liner. If i spray the roof line, it will seal up all the gaps from the metal roof which i like the idea of keeping bees and whatever else out.

Re: Pole Frame Garage
That’s my brother and my boys. My dad and he live for it. I don’t care for it. The meat sucks unless you make into jerky or bologna or tacos or something seasoned. I prefer beef. We do eat every bit they harvest. I don’t care to kill deer either. I hate the cold, rain, and boredom of hunting.

Re: Pole Frame Garage
struggling with the ceiling insulation. If i blow in, i will need to block off the eves to keep the insulation from going down the walls and out the soffit vent. They make rafter mates, but they are for 24" OC. I have 48". Putting two together don't work so nice. The rafter mate keeps a channel of vented air from the soffit vent up to the ridge vent and allows a spot for the blown to rest against. Thoughts?

Re: Pole Frame Garage
Decided to have the ceiling foamed. Hated to spend the extra money but it seemed like the right option at this point with the walls being foamed. It should pay back in heating and cooling. How long that payback is i'm not sure, i imagine it will be quite some time. I dont have to worry about condensation now and that makes me feel better. When i pulled down the two ceiling panels that i had up there was condensation on the other side of them already. Of course I don't have doors yet and the weather is 25 in the morning and 50 in the afternoon. Anyway, hopefully after next week i can get moving on it.

Re: Pole Frame Garage
I think you made the right choice IMO. My next building I plan to do the same. The condensation problem leads to engines and bare metal rusting. Real PITA. That extra money spent will save you in more than heating bills. I'm sure you already know, but make sure you get the best insulated double steel paneled doors you can. Those cheap doors sure leak air and the wind flexes them a lot.

Re: Pole Frame Garage
Foamers came back yesterday to do some touch up and make sure that everything was sealed. The overhead doors are in so I need to get moving and get the ceiling liner and front wall done. I'm going to schedule the doors for two weeks out.

Re: Pole Frame Garage
All overhead electric is roughed in so we can work on the ceiling liner. We predrilled the sheets so the screws would all be straight. 4 panels are up - so far so good. The first night my buddy sliced open his hand on the metal and the next night a part of the drywall lift fell 10' and hit my forearm. 2 nights 2 injuries. Hope that trend ceases.
