I really have no experience with autos, but the Th400/NP205 adapter can be pretty pricey. Also an fyi, the tailgate is a reproduction and the front fender is from what looks like a '68 chevy or 68-72 GMC, because of the marker light. '67's had no markers, so the bed is correct (or at least that side). that is a nice lookign truck but I am really not sure what it would be worth.

Transfer case WOULDNT bolt to a t400 with mods to the input shaft. The t350 should work alright if the cooler assembly is alright. That truck is clean and definatly isnt stock. I can agree with everything said above, axles arent stock, the tranny isnt orginal, nor the front diff. Sounds almost like its a 1970 frame and drivetrain and a 67 cab????? anyone? And i dont know if i would pay that much for it.. i probably wouldnt.. just me

I thought you could change out the input shaft and get a t400 to 205 adapter and make it work. there were 2 different t-400 configurations and thus 2 different t-400 adaptors, but I think it can be done for about 200 bucks. stelth2002, for my edification, why won't it bolt up? (I'm not trying to be a smarta$$)

good things are the small rear window and such. what would make this truck valuable is it was a 1967 stock truck, unfortunately it isn't anywhere near stock. That said what would make this truck valuable is the fact that is has all kinds of really good components. It has a Dana 44 drum brake front, which is marginal as you can't buy new drums and will have to do a disc conversion later. Discs are better, a Dana 60 would be best. It has an t-350, a t-400 would be better it has a 205 t-case, but, it probably has a 10 spline front output shaft and we know it has the small 27 spline input. rear axle is marginal a Corp 14 would be better. engine?? Body: clean, but not original In Oregon, I could buy that truck for about $4500 and it wouldn't be a very good deal. For 7 grand, you can get a truck with all the really good stuff. I don't know where you are, but in the East (snow salt country) a good non-rusty body may be worth the 7 grand. Keep in mind, that you can have a pickup hauled coast to coast for less than 2K. I paid 1200 for a 98 burb from Huston Texas to Oregon and that was 1800 miles and they charged me extra for weight because it was a 3/4 ton with big bumpers etc. No offense, but I think you are a bit obsessed with this truck (if you don’t believe me, ask your wife ) You need to go look at some other trucks for a while. At that price, that one isn't going to get bought out from under you anytime soon, at least not by someone that knows a lot about trucks. I think that I would agree with stelth2002. It could very well be a 69 or 70 drivetrain with a 67 cab and box. Crawl under the truck and check the VIN on the frame. That will answer the question. It is a very nice truck but I also think that it is a little overpriced.

Didn't have time to post this before, but where is the VIN located on the frame?
Also, the reason I'm kind of deep into this one, is I've been looking for a 3/4 or 1 ton truck so I can pull a 20-24' enclosed trailer for my 68 Chevelle to the dragstrip next year. Then, I received a call from a woman who used to work for me and her husband died. She asked if I'd be interested in buying the truck or helping her to sell it for her. So, I'm trying to find out all I can, although the TH350 trans is now enough to have me shy away, however, I will now help her get it sold. What transfer case is used with TH400 trannys? |

Look for the frame VIN on the driver's side frame rail. They are usually either up by the steering box (on top of rail) or below the driver's door on the side of the frame rail. The TH400 was also mated to a NP205 but I believe the input shaft is different.

the TH400 was never put in a 4x4 67-72 from the factory.
also, some '80s trucks had the NP208 mated to the TH400 = not as good.

1969 GMC, I had read that the 1 tons in the 73 and up trucks received the NP205 with the TH400. Do you know anything about that?

yes, I know that the most common setup is the TH400/NP205 in the K/30's. But the military CUCV trucks (5/4 ton) used TH400/NP208 (except for 2 rare models that used the slip yoke NP205). I am also pretty sure that some '80s K/20's and some K/30's came with a TH400/NP208 combo, but cannot verify this.

Now with the 5/4 ton using the TH400/NP208, are you saying this setup is not as good as a TH350/NP205? |

Hey guys...thanks, but I am just a "know it all" teenager...there is plenty that I don't know. I just like to absorb information on things I like, and I like 4x4's.
Bigdog, I meant that the NP208 transfer case isn't as strong or desireable as the NP205. In all reality, it would work fine in a tow rig truck. But, if you could, go for the TH400/NP205 combo...this is the strongest and is more common than the TH400/NP208, anyway. You will have to be lucky and either find someone that has this setup sitting in their garage somewhere, or find a K/30 in a junkyard somewhere and pray the guy doesn't overcharge you. If you find a complete K/30, buy the whole thing...engine depends, but a lot were 454 equipped. Dana 60 front axle = strong. 14 bolt rear axle = strong. TH400 + NP205 (usually) = strong. You know what, reading my above writing, maybe you should just look for a clean K/30. They aren't as old (or the same body style), but you could probably score a clean one for the same price, and not have to upgrade anything.

How hard would it be to put a TH400 in it and adapt to the NP205? Can the input of the NP205 be swapped to accept the larger TH400 output shaft? Anyone have a procedure?

The 205 behind 350 has a 27 spline input shaft. The shaft you need for a t-400 has 32 splines. The bearing is larger and you would have to bore the housing of that t-case to make it take a 32 spline input.
There are 2 versions of t-400: Pre 1985 which has a short, female 32 spline shaft and bolts up to the "Double-circle" bolt pattern adapter. 1985 and newer had a long, female 32 spline input and took the single circlebolt pattern. The Single circle 205 will bolt up to the proper adapter on a new t-400 or a newer sm465. Best to find the stuff all together somewhere, either the older setup or the newer. You don't need a real expensive adapter, just a GM one, but it might cost 80 bucks if you buy it separate. I bought an 87 k30 dually on ebay for 3200. It has a the newer t400 and 205. It will pull about anything, just not fast on account of the 6.2 diesel dog motor.
