Re: Clutch alignment issues.
That's what I'm thinking. Leave it on the jack and get behind it with your feet and wiggle it in that way. I always have to do that when I've got a 4 or 5 speed with a t-case behind it. Just make sure the trans is bolted to the jack securely so you don't shove it off the jack

Re: Clutch alignment issues.
Since you have taken it that far apart try to put the transmission into the pilot bushing without the clutch installed. If it fits then the bushing is not the problem.

Re: Clutch alignment issues.
Here is some information on how to align a bellhousing. If you google it you will find lots of information.

Re: Clutch alignment issues.
Here's what happens when the trans doesn't line up with the bronze pilot bearing .

Re: Clutch alignment issues.
I got the trans in and bolted up. Just had to wiggle it for an hour to get it right in. I’ll get everything buttoned up this week and let you guys know how it drives. Thank you for all the help. This forum is awesome.

Re: Clutch alignment issues.
I’ve run into another issue. Driveshafts. I pulled the driveshaft out of the c20 coil truck to put in my c10 leaf truck. I thought it would fit but the c20 driveshaft is just a little too long. Now, my c10 rear drive shaft section would remedy this if I slipped it on the c20 front section. I assume I would I need to get the full shaft rebalanced. But is there any issue with running a driveshaft like this? Half c10 half c20. A c1.5 driveshaft haha. This would also allow me to not run a conversion u joint. The c20 driveshaft is a bit thicker then the c10 one. If this needs a new thread let me know. Thanks fellas

I can't see where there would be a problem if you can get it to all fit together. I would put it together and try it. If you end up with a vibration you will have a good idea what the problem is. LockDoc

Re: Clutch alignment issues.
It’s been a minute. But I finally got the truck buttoned up. The 4 speed shifts great.
It really gives the truck that old school feel with the manual. It doesn’t have exhaust on it at the moment but I took my dad for a ride in it and it brought back memories of his old 69 4 speed. Thank you for all the helps guys. |

Re: Clutch alignment issues.
I'm betting the pilot bushing is damaged.Pull it apart and measure everything.

Re: Clutch alignment issues.
Never use the bolts or even longer bolts to install a transmission.
Make guide pins with screwdriver slots for removal. The pins help hold part of the weight and help you get perfect alignment before you slide the trans or trans/bellhousing home. The other bolts will spin in freely before you remove the guide pins. Guide pin length can be custom tailored for easy removal with close clearances. I don't think the tapered guide pins that are sold, work as well.
