Re: BUCKET SEATS in a 1984 ??

Got my center seat brackets (from Ken Whitman) welded in today.
Friend of mine did it, I think he did great job. Very happy.

Now if I could just get my saddle seat covers from USA1,
that would help me decide on color for console paint, carpet, etc.

Re: BUCKET SEATS in a 1984 ??

If your getting the covers as I am, I would use the 73-76 Saddle. That’s what I’m going to do the console in. It would be the color on these belts. Both are the same color, it’s just the lights.
Your buddy did a good job.

How did you locate the brackets? Bolt them to the seats brackets, bolt the seat brackets to the floor and mark them?

I installed the seat only bolted on 3 corners and resting on the center (4th) bracket.
Tack welded the center bracket, removed the seat, and finished the weld.
Then reinstalled seats.

Your buddy did a good job.
Covers were ordered as "75-76 Saddle color". Thinking I would order from USA-1 their 75-76 Saddle dye/paint.
Do you think that's best product instead of SEM ? I've used SEM several times and it was fine
but think I remember reading you prefer USA-1 paint ?

Also will be looking to you Tina for seat belts to match the color in the future, 3 point setup correct for 1984.
Maybe in a couple months. Thank you

The USA1 dyes cover really well. Here's my dash that started black and is now '76 blue

I like the USA1 dye because there is no guessing on the color. And SEM has discontinued a lot of our colors. I’ve been using USA1 dye for a longtime now, and have never been disappointed.
Now when it comes to the seatbelts, I don’t change the color of seatbelts, and the 73-76 Saddle color are only on those year of belts. It’s on the 72 also, which is the one pic I posted above. The 84 is light Saddle Tan, which is a different tan.

Re: BUCKET SEATS in a 1984 ??

Started installing carpet. Kind of hated to lose original black rubber mat but
think I will like the carpet better overall.
Carpet color is 75 Saddle by ACC.
Also sprayed the door panels 75 saddle.

Re: BUCKET SEATS in a 1984 ??

Wow pretty dramatic change! I put a black carpet in because it was on the shelf and I was impatient, I am regretting it a bit now. Looking forward to the finished product.

Re: BUCKET SEATS in a 1984 ??

Installed an unrestored console with my worn out seat covers. It is kind of nice to work
with old stuff where you don't have to watch too close on scratches and scrapes.
I'll add the restored cupholder console when I receive the new seat covers (3 months wait so far).

Installed a piece of 2x4 to raise the rear of the console approx. 2". Then saw a
a bracket stand on Ebay and bought that. Will post later when I see if it works well or not.

What bracket was the one you got listed for? This is the bracket and the consoles are supposed to use.

Looked up the listing, says for 81-91. Those consoles are different, did it bolt up to yours?

Haven't received it yet, it'll be another 2 or 3 days.
Just thought I can make it work, better than a block of wood, and only $22 shipped so thought I would take a chance.
Do you know where I can buy one like the one you pictured? That's probably what I need.

The guy I got a couple from is a member here on the forum but I believe he got stationed In Japan so I don’t know if he’s around. I got one from a local guy who specializes in restoring 69-80 consoles, he may have a few laying around.

Just saw you needed the piece to raise the console, do you still need it. I had 2 but will have to locate them.

Tina, the second set of seat belts you pictured in 73-76 saddle, would those fit and bolt right in to my 84? and are they 3-point?

If so, would you have a set for sale ?

Re: BUCKET SEATS in a 1984 ??

Hooverfish

Just wanted to verify this as my factory 1973 low back seat did not have those extra brackets (blue circled in #9)on rear mount to seat frame on drivers tracks. In picture#9 in blue circle I believe is the later style 75-76 seat brackets and 1973-74 buckets the track was only bolted straight to the seat base. So in picture #14 looks like your seat at the rear also only bolts to the seat frame and those blue circled brackets are not used on yours correct?
Just wanted to check as mine never had any marks that those little angled brackets were ever installed there.
Thanks, Mark
