My buddy had a CM d/s let go at 140 and damages were brutal. broken 3rd member, ear broken off aluminum LS block where starter mounted. Since we copied his build in my truck I went C/F from QA1.

I was just reminded of my favorite "twisted driveshaft" story.

I grew up hearing about this '67 GTO that broke the drive shaft, which proceeded to beat the floor out of the car as it tried to come inside.

Denny was so disgusted that he parked the car and it sat for probably 25 years - until he restored it.

So now he has an original owner '67 Ram Air GTO with about 10,000 miles on it.

Denny is the guy that broke the driveshaft racing; the flailing shaft came right up in the car and beat the carpet to smithereens, filling the interior with red fuzz. He said he looked back as he was trying to get the car stopped and could see the carpet disappearing in a zig-zag fashion as it wound itself around the remnant of the shaft - LOL!

When I was a kid we had a guy that lived down the road die, when his u joint failed by the transmission, the front of driveshaft hit the pavement then pole vaulted the truck which flipped over and killed the guy.

So if you go one piece check your u joints and add a driveshaft loop if you want to drive hard and be safe.

I put a LT1 and a 700r4 in my 69 C-10 all I did was shorten the front shaft 3ins. Fast cheap easy. Anyway thats my two cents worth
