Update:

Truck is back from trans shop and running great. Had the trans rebuilt, or in their terms, remanufactured. New torque converter etc. Seems the tc was the main issue, and other aged/worn components. Was able to reuse/keep the original trans shell.

As to the cost, it was $1990. For perspective, AAMCO wanted $3000+!. So, the Mrs. and I were fine with the $1990. In 10 days we will be celebrating 30 years of ownership of the truck.

Anyway, thanks for the advice/comments everyone.

I was gonna say torque convertor as my truck is doing this exact thing at this moment.
And 50-60mph is side street speeds. Freeway is 80+ round here lol

Excellent. Glad you found a decent outfit.
Nearing two grand is still an owch moment but not as bad a 3 grand.

I'd actually put some highway and town miles on it while it's under warranty just in case.
