Glamour Series?

I wondered the same thing when I heard glamour series on that episode.

It looks simply to be vague referencing to the advertisements, which are also delicately trying to say it looks "better"

Action line and New Breed, are the obvious actual marketing speak. Though I've heard action line, as well as Inflation Fighter in reference to 67-72's so that specific ad must have stuck with someone.

I've seen some people try to push the CST thing. I see why, because it's specific to 67-72 therefore it "shouldn't" get confused. However, it's still confusing because it's also a trim option... along with Cheyenne, Chey Super, Sierra, Grande, C10 CST 10, Custom 10, Highlander etc.

If someone told me they have a CST truck, I'd assume it's got some options and the according trim and badges.

We always called them 67-72s. Still do, "Six sem sem twos"

Great thread here with some great responses and information. I've owned 4, to include the '71 LWB 4x4 I have now along with having a '72 with a 307 4 spd, '71 K5 Blazer I regret selling, a '67 short bed 327 4 spd. Don't ever recall hearing them called Glamour Series, just a 67 short bed, '72 long bed, 71 Blazer and current, '71 4x4. The guy who did the full interior on my '57 has been after me big time to buy my '71 4x4. Nope, not for sale!

Thanks Tim, truck still shows and looks pretty well being the body and paint was done in 2004/05. Can't remember for sure. Since then there has been a few very minor nicks and such, nothing serious but the very first one was rather traumatic, LOL. It's no longer my gravel haulin, trash haulin, knock around beater truck as it was when I first bought it in '85. Back then it was like most of the real 4x4s of the day, rode hard and put away wet several times. During the rebuild we replaced the hood, both outer fenders, inner fenders, both doors, the bed and the tailgate. Typical cab corners, cab supports, inner and outer rockers. New leaf springs all around. Only thing original to the truck is the cab and the running gear, Might have been cheaper back then to buy another truck but as you know 4x4s in this body style even years ago weren't on every block with a For Sale sign on them.

Thanks for the '67 ads special-K, they put things into perspective. IMO, what Danny was getting at was the change from more boxy truck styling to more sleeker car styling. This '67 ad in particular nails it, even mentions " trucky" styling and designed to "grace your driveway". Clearly, GM was trying to say we now have a pickup that looks like a sleeker car welcome in any neighborhood. There are many similiarities between the '66 Olds and the '67 GM pickup.

I like all the truck body styles, and I remember when the '67 came out. Big change, but I still thought that they looked good.

This is why I like just plain "Sport Truck Series" for the 67-72 Chevys and GMCs. It avoids the confusion with the CST equipped trucks and other trim lines.

I think Squarebody for the 73-87 line is a fairly recent term for that series. How did that come into more common usage? Any theories? I wonder if commentary on the Mecum/Barrett-Jackson auction shows didn't play a role.

Yeah, even in '71 a Z84 truck could be labeled Custom Sport Truck on the SPID even though they were Cheyennes by then. Cheyenne came along in the last couple years to transition toward the next truck design. Custom had already been in use in the earlier trucks and carried through this line, even with GMC. Some Cheyenne Super SPIDS say Cheyenne Super Sport. GM definitely had bringing sporty to these trucks in the design, as well as comfort (Custom). Just coming up with CST was more of a new category than a model, same as LTD, LE, LS, SE, GT, and such

I think the internet bringing truck people together, and creating them, is how the new names are being generated. Squarebody I believe was started on forums, maybe this one. We always used the years... 41-47, 47-55, 55-59, 60-66, 67-72, 73-87s, and 88-98s. You might hear "War Era" for 41-46. There were the first series and second series some years and that info just got fit into the conversation. We never said Advance Design or Task Master. I had the brochures, I knew they were called that but we didn't use it. A lot of people would call the 55-59s "The Apache Trucks" I remember. That would confuse me because all Task Masters aren't Apaches and some Apaches are 60/61. The one that bugs me is for 88-98, OBS. That is a modern body style for a truck unless you were born yesterday. I am only just now starting to use it, But GM already started giving us a way to start naming the series beginning with GMT400. That's another story, but get out of here with that OBS BS. In the classic way it would be a '99-00 1st Series.

The way I remember it was in the 70's if you wanted a truck to use as a daily driver and take your girl to the drive in on Friday night you bought a chevy .they were more comfortable . If you needed a truck to work hard everyday you bought a ford . That's why they were called glamour trucks . YMMV

Looks are subjective, but the trucks series before and the truck series after were NOT attractive in the least. We won't get into their contemporaries, as they were really butt ugly.

They are a graceful, rugged looking design that has aged well.

We never called them "Squarebodies".

We just called them C/K trucks (or R/V trucks) and then on into the program designations (ie GMT400, GMT800, GMT900 etc).

I'll take Action Line. New Breed is OK, but it is externally referential, and implies contempt for the previous generation, for which I have a soft spot. I don't like "Sport Truck": it's a truck, not a toy. :-D

Never heard Glamour Series, I read somewhere 67-72 is called the Action Line. I thought I remember seeing it documented in GM nomenclature, but none of the posted ads here mentioned it. Where is it actually written as Action Line?
From the thread in '03, there is no reference to Action Line, when did this pop up? It's almost like how a rumor gets started..

GM didn't name these trucks, period. And us owners didn't either. But now people want to name them and claim which one is the authentic name. They used catch phrases in their advertising and people are latching on to them. They didn't have a model name like Silverados do now. If you had a '72 Cheyenne Super/10 through the years you'd either tell people you have a '72 Chevy pickup or a '72 C/10. If you wanted to tell more you'd mention the Cheyenne Super or other notable option, like big block

Yup. All the fancy names are just from the pipe dreams of the advertizing/marketing boys, not the production line.
