i only wear mine evrey now and then. i had it on in both accidents i have been in one in a 77 chevy p/u at 40 mph kept me from flying out the door and one i rearended a car in my 68 gmc causing a three car pile up( speed about 45mph) was wearing the lap belt my truck had but it did not prevent me from bending the steering wheel over 90 degrees with my throat. i could not talk for a week. kind of scary. i still do not do not do it as much as should(all of the time).

I wear mine all of the time. Just checked with the NC Highway Patrol about the seat belt laws and this is what they gave me:

What vehicles are covered?

All "passenger motor vehicles" required by federal standards to be equipped with seat belts are covered. "Passenger motor vehicle" is defined as a motor vehicle designed for carrying ten or fewer passengers but excludes motorcycles, mopeds or trailers.

All passenger cars manufactured after 1967 are required by federal law to have seat belts. Requirements for vans, pickup trucks and sport utility vehicles to be equipped with belts began with the models manufactured after 1971. There are no exemptions for vehicles registered in other states.

I don't understand how we let the government get away with passing mandatory seat belt laws. I am responsible for my car and the people in it. If I drive off the road into a tree and die because I chose not to use a seat belt that is my choice. This is the USA for crying out loud. Freedom is what makes this country great and the laws that are passed like this slowly makes this country less great. In my state it is against the law to be in a passenger compartment without a seatbelt but is perfectly OK to ride in the bed of a truck with no protection. Sorry I had to vent because this has bugged me for a long time. The answer to the question is only when forced to.

SOMETIMES YES AND SOMETIMES NO-IF I KILL MYSELF-WELL? BUT IF SOMEONE IN MY CAR IS BADLY HURT AND THERE IS ONLY SO MUCH INSURANCE, 'WE' WILL HAVE TO PICK UP THE TAB. THIS IS WHY IT IS A LAW IN MOST STATES.

9 times out of 10 I buckle up. The ONLY exception is when I'm driving 10Km/h or less. Eg. If I'm in a campsite, out in the woods, in an empty parking lot moving a vehicle, moving a vehicle in the driveway, etc. Other than that, if I'm on the road, highway etc, it's the belt.

Yes always. I have heard that a insurance company can refuse to pay life insurance or medical bills, do to you not wearing required by law safety devices.
Did you hear about the guy that found out that most accidents happen within a few miles of home, so he moved.

I don't wear mine as much as I should I suppose. If I'm on the highway I pretty much always do.
My wife will always put it on when she's in the truck. I think that may have something to do with the way I drive.

I'm with ddsmith, I only wear mine when I have too. I dont agree with mandetory laws from the government concerning my personal safety, just like the states that have mandetory helmet laws, It should be our own personal choice! ;(

I NEVER EVER EVER (unless getting pulled over) wear my seatbelt and I believe that it is a violation of our personal privacy telling me that I have to wear my seatbelt I have been in four accidents and have never gotten hurt because I wasn't wearing my seatbelt... I believe that people should be able to choose wether they want to buckle in or not..... The biggest part of this is that some of the people in this country that push seatbelts are also the same people that believe that Abortion is a choice!!! Just my opinion

I personally don't get why some people think it's soooooo bad for the government to have mandatory helmet and seatbelt laws.

Then again...it might be hindering natural selection.

Shoulder belts aren't very expensive or hard to find; nor are they hard to install. Lap belts are quite ineffective, IMO, for anything short of keeping you flying out of the car.

Except that others end up picking up the tab when you do get hurt. Lots of things that others do that won't always hurt you directly except in the wallet. Why do I pay out the nose for insurance with a perfect record? Because lots of other under-25-year-old males have been utterly stupid and gotten in wrecks...none of 'em have hit my truck yet but they're all hitting my wallet.

And as for smoking...that's right out, it's even worse to others than it is to the smoker, the smoker at least has the filter on the end of the cig. The rest of us? *cough*

Being a State Trooper here in Alabama I can tell you they save lives, and reduce injury overall. I agree, the state or federal gov has no business in mandating a law requiring citizens or their passengers to buckle up. I wish the ones who don't wear them for whatever reason could see the results overall of a body bouncing around the inside of a vehicle. For every story of, "If I had mine on, I would of been killed". I could show ten the other way. I buckle up, law or no law, and please buckle up the kids. They don't know any better.

I know what a person looks like after being bounced around inside a car, and how he feels. Nevada state trooper also told me I would have been killed had I been wearing one. Here's a link to the car i was driving last year. And I still don't wear one. http://communities.msn.com/_Secure/0...vIc*wI0/VW.jpg

I for one do not smoke and I am under 25 and am proud of it... If that makes you pay more imagine what I am paying.. If you expect me to fell sorry for you because you pay out of your wallet guess what!!! I pay more and I bet you that when you were younger the older folks were complaining about high insurance. If you want your insurance rates to go down you might want to start with all the over 25 yr old drunks and the older people that cannot drive anymore. I usually try not to get into these conversations like this but I guess I made my first mistake here

1. What were you doing driving a tin can like that? =P

2. And how exactly did not having a seatbelt help you? (Though in a wreck like that, it seems like seatbelt or not, you're gonna get hurt, just a matter of how much)

Dude, I'm 18. How'd you get the idea I was over 25? I'm paying out the nose because of all the other under-25 males, like the kids who thought it'd be great to race on a curvy street and killed a pizza guy, or the kid who rearended a car hard while racing, killing the driver, a car that happened to be driven by his own mother...

People are dumb, and the worst part is, the rest of us have to pay up because of it. If people weren't dumb, I wouldn't even have to pay insurance, period, or only a minimal amount.
