Re: My 1968 50th Short Bed Barn Find
Well, the thread originator was on the website,3 days ago, maybe he will respond, shortly...
My Golden is a Custom, also. It has a white vinyl seat that has an imprinted pattern on it. nothing fancy, just a pattern that runs from top to bottom, on back and cushion, except for the last 6 inches of both. I am a little unsure of the floor mat in mine. When I bought mine in 1980 it had indoor/outdoor carpeting glued down, and was rotten and coming apart all over, I got most of it taken up, and am not remembering if the rubber mat was still in it. Mine has the 396 engine, TH400 trans, PS, PB. The thing I see here, that I'm thankful for, is that mine is a 1/2 ton. Many of the 396's had 4 speed grandma 4 speeds and were 3/4 tons. Although a 3/4 has much better brakes then the 1/2 tons, due to their larger drums and shoes. I wonder though how those older 3/4 tons would fare in a daily driver environment? Especially when driving through water? As crazy as this may sound.....I like the idea of having an old pickup with the 3 speed column shifter, Yo seldom see them any more AT ALL!!! Its a nostalgic thing, possibly, and if you have a 3OTT, you can't apply a tremendous amount of power, easily, so a 6 cyl engine would be just fine (to me...) |

Re: My 1968 50th Short Bed Barn Find
I ended up doing a trade with a long time friend of mine. He had a ‘62 Bubbletop I had drooled over for about 10 years. He wanted the truck, I wanted the car. He is now driving the truck around. It had rockers and some suspensions/brake work done. Still waiting on the cover to come in from SMS. I have the chassis done on the Bel Air and 409 built.

Yes, I'd like to know about that air cleaner assembly. Don't recall ever seeing that on a Chevy.

Re: My 1968 50th Short Bed Barn Find
I have a build thread on the 348-409 forum. Air Cleaner is a Z11 replica.

Re: My 1968 50th Short Bed Barn Find
Could you link to that build thread? I am also really interested in the '62. That chassis looks awesome.
Edit: nm, found it. https://www.348-409.com/forum/thread...-belair.54748/ but you have to be a member to look at the pics, bummer...

How about inviting the new owner of the truck here as well?

Re: My 1968 50th Short Bed Barn Find
Thanks. Cool pics! One of my younger brothers built a similar air box that attached to the firewall on his '60 Chevy wagon. Had some nice secondary roar going on!
