Look real close on that HEI upgrade on the V-6...I didn't read the article very closely, and went out to buy the parts at a local yard. I was going to do up an HEI for chevyfatman's GMC longhorn (305 powered)
I bought the parts, and like usual, told her not to paint up my stuff, that I won't be back with them...cost me something like 45 bucks. When i re-read it and found the machine work I had to do, and priced the labor, I realized I'd be in it for well over 100 bills.
And just my luck, with no paint on my parts, they wouldn't let me return them.

Re: is a 305 v6 a rare motor?

i know the thread is from 04 an all, but:

1) was searching for something unrelated and came upon this.

2) topic still relevant, so the date shouldn't matter.

There is another kinky, yet do-able idea concerning the HEI upgrade: you could get a trigger wheel from say, electromotive
http://www.electromotive-inc.com/. It shouldn't take to much effort to machine it to fit where the rotor once was. Then run their simple yet effective direct ignition system.
