Hey Jeff,

John sounds like he is working in the tourism department for Arizona!

I wonder if he is hiring?

Jim,

I live over by Detroit and I got about 12-14 inches! This is the most snow I've seen here in a long time. I love it, so I don't mind. I do get a kick out of how all the news channels and all the people living here complain about the snow and cold. You know, IT'S JANUARY IN MICHIGAN, IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT, LEAVE!!! I don't want to listen to you complain about it. I love going out and playing in the snow. My dogs love it too, we go sledding and they chase me down the hill. I'm not too keen on the below zero temps, but we don't get those very often here. It's been in the teens here, but not much wind.

12-14 inches is the most you have seen in a long time? Wow, I am surprised, living in Michigan, right off the Great Lakes and just short of Canada I would think that you would see snow like that at least several times a year.
I live in CT and Canada is always dumping the white stuff on us. Of course we New Englanders live in a wierd area where the jet stream can carry stuff down from the north as well as bring stuff in from the west. We get hammered just about every year from both directions. I guess that is why we love our winters after the first few snow falls and then are praying for the spring by January.

On the west side of the state, where Jim lives, they get A LOT more. Over here on the east side, we don't get it. The lake effect dies off before it gets here. You have to remember that Michigan is about 2.5 times as wide as CT, so the weather on one side isn't the same as on the other. It's been years since the southern part of MI had a real heavy snow all winter. Farther north, they have a lot too. The lakes will really hammer them until (if) they freeze over. Storms just suck that moisture out and dump in inland all winter.

jmanz69,

Our snow has been spotty this winter. The snow earlier this week has been the most at one time for the season. We have only had a total of 13-15 inches and you got almost that much at one time. I believe that is a lot for your area.

Do you have any pics?

Jim

Down here in Loudon, NH out of the mountain region, its been -30 to -40F with wind chill for the past few days. Luckily I've been inside wrapped in a warm blanket , because I've been recovering from an appendectomy .

No pics, I left my digi-cam at work. But, we did get another 2-3 inches yesterday. The sun will be out for the next few days, it should melt it off the roads at least. I justify my 4X4 in weather like this. Do I need it? No. Does it make it much easier to get around? You bet.
