The down sides to black have been covered, but there are a few advantages too. Trucks are very modular and the dark color helps to blend everything together by hiding all the gaps between the body panels. If you look at a light colored truck all the seperate body pieces stand out like they are outlined in black and anything that isn't perfectly aligned jumps out at your eye. It's hard to say which is the toughest; to do get the body straight or the alignment perfect. Both tasks are time consuming and important for the over all sucess of the paint job regardless of color. There are a lot of colors that look good on these old trucks and black is somewhere at the top of the list.

My 03 Ram is black, and I leave it dirty because it too much of a pain to keep clean (looks good for a while), my 71 GMC is black and silver, and I wish I could paint it all silver.

i've got 2 black autos. my 02 ss and my 70 truck, which needs new black paint. i would have to say that my purple camaro is harder to keep clean than my black autos are. i've had a blue 66 and that thing was just as bad to keep clean. i love these trucks in black. i would have to say that black makes any staright car/truck look good.

black is the only way to go if you have both the upper and lower trim. I have never been too in to the smothed black look just because that is when you really see the flaws.

Here's a pic of my ugly black truck that needs a buttload of bodywork. In the foreground is the Caddie northstar thats eventually going in it, perhaps with an Eaton M90 too

I think Black goes very well on our trucks. I like it as long as it's the original color. Hate to see chips and different color under.
Here is my Black 72

Several companies have introduced a "True Black" color. If you look at at lot of "Blacks" you will see either green, blue, or brown in them (especially if you look at the formula)
House of Kolor and PPG have both introduced a true black and both are offered in a single stage paint.

I have painted two cars now with the PPG black and it is outstanding. They have no clear on top to discolor the true black and provide a nice depth to the black paint because there is no depth of clear laying on top of the paint.

If you really want a black truck check them out.

Three colors... Black... Red... and Orange... the best for these trucks. Mine is black and real close to paint red for a change.

Here's a pic of my 71 w/402 from back in the late 70s (yes, still have it). The truck looked great but was impossible to maintain. Will never do black again. It's in the shop and slowly working on becoming a nice bright yellow. Moon roof is gone and so is that ugly Chevy emblem in the window.
