Yes that diff vent is original.
I don't think he soaked it. Just a fine mist. I'll ask him about what you said.

If you think you might drive in deep water I would put the kind of vent that has a hose.

I was thinking it should have a hose? Hell this truck or my other truck will never see rain again let alone creek water. Now my f#ord it will be outside untill it's body parts fall off. That should be next year sometime. It has a hose on its diff. because it's a 4x4 and I dog the $hit out of it. Gotta love the big blocks.

Re: Daverods project 66

Put my jeep springs on. Put on a new rear brake line. What a pain. Nobody carried the right brake line. I ended up putting an adapter on the end where it hooks into the line coming down the frame. When for alittle spin around the block rides nice. Thinking I should paint the back part of my frame while I have the bed off.

To save money, hell yes. That's what takes so much time. Sweeping it up, sifting it, and putting back in the blaster. I just found out how to save sand usage buy adjusting the air flow. Before it was coming out full blast, and the tank emptied real fast.

I know reality sucks don't it. Could'nt bring myself to sand blasting my frame. I did wire brush it good though. Put a coat of rust restorer and two coats of gloss black. I was in such a big rush to get my bed back on I forgot to take some pics. I missed driving it. I don't want to spent a lot of time or money on the 64 yet. I'm just going to drive it ther way it is for now. I might get a couple bumpers for it. Now I can work on getting my 66 to lay frame. Or it least thinking about getting it to lay frame. Hunting season is coming up quick and the month of September is'nt a big $$ maker for me. It's hard to make cash chasing elk for a month.

Re: Daverods project 66

I've got two bedsides that look about the same. Think this could be fixed? It looks worse in person the curve part is really wacked. The first pics shows it the best.

I sure a good body man can shrink, & hammer it back to shape. As long as he doesn't use too much Bondo.
If not cut the bad part out and make new panels.

I do have an extra bed side. It's wacked in the same spot but I mightbe able to cut a piece out of it further down the side.

Re: Daverods project 66

Ordered me a big old step notch for my 66 today. Got it from SD. Sale price. Now I need a four link. Do I have to Z the front to get it to lay frame. I'm planing on 2" spindles, bags and my pancaked 1 1/2"cross member.

Re: Daverods project 66

if your crossmember is pancaked then you will be good, to lay that thing out with dropspindles. You'll have to get 2 1/2", some people use 3" but you have problems with wheels. One thing you can do if you have the SD cups too is to cut them down to 1".

Hot Rodders usually Z the back of the frame. I guess it's called the same when you do the front. Another way to get it to lay rockers is to body drop it, or channel it. (Same thing) But you loose floor height. I would rather Z it. Then the inside of the cab looks stock.
But what question did you have? Did you just want to see pictures of how it's done?

I was just wondering if it was needed to lay the front down. I couldn't find much info on how or where to cut the frame? If I don't need to do it then I won't.

Re: Daverods project 66

Dave I dont think you will have to Z it, I think the SD and PD crossmembers are raised up 1 1/2" as well and Mine lays out. But check it first. I'm going to PM you some info on the Z.
